Children facing cancer are often frightened and overwhelmed by doctors’ visits, terminology, and treatments. Some children are unable to articulate their many questions about the disease. Kathie Brown’s new juvenile fiction book, Stuffles B. Snippet Joins the Fight, tackles this serious subject in a lighthearted and humorous way to help children cope with their diagnosis. Stuffles B. Snippet is Emily’s best friend. When Emily is diagnosed with cancer, this serious-looking brown teddy bear is with her every step of the way. Stuffles goes through CAT scans, biopsies, chemotherapy, and even a hospital stay. He helps her through some tough times and writes notes in his red diary to bring smiles and laughter to the little girl. Along the way, they meet new friends who spread cheer throughout the hospital. These include therapy dogs, Batdog Archie and Goldie, and the special people who care for cancer patients. Kathie Brown, author of The Diary of Stuffles B. Snippet, was facing her own battle with cancer when she decided to write a second children’s book to demystify the various aspects of cancer and its treatment, and to comfort and inform these brave young patients.
