  • Hide and Secret

    Kathleen Fuller

Paperback (Thomas Nelson, Sept. 20, 2011)
Anna Mae Shetler is a tomboy who loves nothing more than exploring the woods with her two best friends, Amos and Jeremiah. During a game of hide and seek they stumble upon a mystery that will threaten to tear apart their friendship, and—as they soon discover—it’s a mystery that caused a rift in their families decades earlier. Anna Mae and her friends are playing in the old tree house in the woods when a floor board suddenly breaks. No one is seriously hurt, but when they take a second look, they see that a metal box of money and a diary are hidden under the floor in the crook of the tree branches. Upon further inspection, they discover that it is a lot of money. As the three set out to solve the mystery, they learn that Jeremiah and Anna Mae’s grandmothers were once great friends, something they would have never guessed since the two women have only been distantly civil to each other in their lifetimes. As they search further, Jeremiah and Anna Mae realize there is a missing third party who must certainly hold the answers to this puzzle. Before they can find out, the money disappears again and threatens the trust of the three friends. Can Anna Mae solve this mystery before it tears apart more relationships? And can God heal decades-old pain and distrust?

  • Duck and Cover

    Kathy Adler

Paperback (BEACHFRONT BOOKS, March 15, 2006)
Farley and Breezy is the tale of two black-footed ferrets and their fruitless attempts to catch lunch. With this book, Kathy Adler has far exceeded the expectations for early-reader chapter-books. Pleasantly paced and entertaining, the writing and story are simple while avoiding the dull and trite. Gorgeous illustrations fill the pages, capturing the mood and energy of the characters. As if it needed anything more, the author included "Facts from Farley" (an informative piece on black-footed ferrets written in the main characters voice), "Farley's Questions" (some discussion prompts), and even "Color Me Farley" and "Color Me Breezy". Overall a very entertaining, high-quality book for beginning readers. If you enjoyed Farley and Breezy, don't miss Duck and Cover; The Continuing adventures of Farley and Breezy. In this second tale of the ferret siblings, Farley and Breezy baby-sit their cousin Seek, and receive a visit from the dreaded Aunt Moana. As in Farley and Breezy, the pleasant writing and beautiful illustrations are above and beyond the expected. The characters are very real (I'm sure we all have an Aunt Moana or a Breezy in our lives), and the story is highly entertaining. As in the first book, the extras are a nice touch. These include "Facts from Farley", "Farley's Questions", "Color Me Seek", "Color Me Skunk", and "Color Me Aunt Moana".
