By the time he gets home, he finds much work and intrigue has found him. It seems he is not the only one who has secrets. He becomes a surrogate brother and uncle all in one swoop. He thinks to himself, I may need another bite of retirement.

    1903 Fascinating account of a Londoner, his wife and three children who, in 1871, sailed as steerage from Liverpool to New York and on to Nebraska traveling through the thriving metropolis of 17,000 called Omaha (! ) to Columbus, in those days little more than a wide spot in the road. The details of his journey (e. G. Ellis Island, New York City in the 1870s) are priceless. This 100-plus book is in remarkable condition: upper tips very lightly bumped, only slight general shelfwear and soil on covers and spine; prior owner's name written on ffep, contents are tight, bright and free of foxing.
