  • Feels Like Rain

    Janae Mitchell

language (Janae Mitchell, March 24, 2015)
What if the feelings you felt were never your own?Jet is different. Able to feel the emotions of those around him, he chooses to spend his days in solitude, pushing out the feelings that attempt to consume him. With numbness his only relief, he’s surprised when he finds himself letting someone in, actually wanting—craving—to feel what she feels.Even though he was warned to stay away from Kalista LaFontain, Jet didn’t listen, not caring what family she came from, knowing she wasn’t like them. Somehow, she was able to make the emotions that assaulted him on a daily basis more bearable, a pleasant contrast to his usual numbness. He didn’t care how powerful or hated her family was; he’d risk it.Little did he know, that risk would change his life forever.WARNING: This book was inspired by (and is a spin-off of) Janae Mitchell's FOR ALWAYS trilogy and does contain spoilers to that series. If you have not read the For Always series, the author recommends that it be read prior to reading this book.
  • "Roid Rage": The First Dose Is Deadly

    Josh Mitchell

language (Wickid Pissa Books, Aug. 13, 2011)
"Roid Rage" is about Billy Beck, a steroid dealer who sells illicit, counterfeit drugs from the UK that are equipped with dangerous livestock byproducts that morph bodybuilders into superhuman killer machines. What happens when you mix a strain of mad-cow disease with an anabolic steroid? The action scenes, gritty dialogue, and thrashing characters cut and illuminate like hatchet blades, inviting the innocent spectator into a world of truculent, flawed outcasts who live and die in a place that looks like Oz after dark.Steroids are being used by criminals as aggression-enhancing drugs. In Norway, enforcers known as "torpedoes" take combinations of steroids and amphetamines to produce a psychopathic state that enables them to kill and maim their victims. Danish motorcycle hoodlums put methyl testosterone capsules under their tongues before gang fights to work themselves into a rage.Such vignettes from the underground steroid world suggest how little we know about the overall social effects of the black market that serves an international industry of action-oriented males that includes a growing number of recreational athletes of all ages. With the recent hoopla about Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and the BALCO controversy, this is a current and fierce story that has the potential to earn the sort of global buzz that Paranormal Activity received. ROID RAGE - "The First Dose Is Deadly".

Peter, fifteen, and his Dad leave Boston for a cross country drive to their new home in Portland, OR. Peter’s Dad is the director of the US Army’s Deep Space Exploration lab and is being transferred to the new, more sophisticated lab in Oregon. Unbeknownst to anyone, however, the signals sent out by the lab’s proprietary satellites and antennae have alerted deep space aliens, who send four of their number to earth to assess the technology and threat potential. These aliens, blindingly white, stocky four foot creatures have the capacity to reduce themselves to the size of a pea by eliminating the atomic distances in each atom of their makeup. Once on earth, they can recharge--in much the same way as electric eels produce a charge—their atoms and regain their original stature. The also possess the ability to extract DNA from any individual earthly life form and assume the size and shape of that individual, including its mind. For this mission, the aliens choose human beings to act as their Trojan Horses. They intercept Peter and his Dad, making his Dad one victim. Peter escapes. Then they randomly select two others to help with the effort in Portland. However, since they do not understand human society, the resultant trio make for a strange, ill-matched group. Further, they have no concept of human psychology or emotion, which proves their undoing. In this fast-paced novel for young adults, Peter and his sister Jessica, together with their friends and contemporaries Andrew and Victoria, the children of the African-American assistant director, they foil the aliens.
