First or very early edition bound in red ribbed cloth with embossed gilt figure of a horseman and gilt spine lettering. Black and white plates by John Leech. 115 pages. The title page states "The Field Office, Strand: then Ward & Locke. 5" x 7 1/2" hardcover is in Good condition. Rubs and frays to the spine ends and along the spine edges. Bumps to the corners. The frontis page is detached, but is included. The front hinge is cracked at the front endpapers and the sewing is exposed, but the binding is still tight. Writing on the front endpaper and a name is inked on the front fly.Small blindstamp at the upper right corner of the front fly.
