This is the fourth of ten gripping stories taken from Nicholas John's book 'The Baboons Who Flew and other Stories' that recounts the adventures Éjula (a mountain gorilla from central Africa) and his many friends, who all live together within the sanctuary of an ancient garden. 'The Day Out', starts on a drab winter's day when Le Petit Gélu collapses the wigwam that Éjula has made to shelter in on top of them all. The decision to then spend a day by the sea leads to a moving story of misadventure as things take a turn for the worse for Sulu Minao the lion cub.
