  • 147 Things: A hilariously brilliant guide to this thing called life

    Jim Chapman

    language (Sidgwick & Jackson, Oct. 5, 2017)
'It's Sapiens for teenagers.' The TimesLIFE IS WEIRD.Nothing gives you a sense of perspective like finding out just how weird.I'm an extremely curious chap and with this book I wanted to share the content of my noggin, because I think these are the 147 things that have helped me through this thing we call life. Sometimes because it shows how lucky we are to be here at all, but often because I’m a moron and learned whatever lesson it taught me the hard way, and I’d like to save you the pain of making the same mistakes (I refer here to the waxing of my pubic hair).Ever wondered if first times are over-rated (hint: they are), whether you’ll ever find the one (hint: there are 7 billion of us) or pondered the sheer unlikelihood of the you who is you being in the world right now? If so, then YouTube superstar and fact-obsessed, over-sharer Jim Chapman is here to explain it all – whether it’s why your heart actually aches after a break-up, what’s happening when you get hangry, or why people are just so plain RUDE online.Along the way, we’ll find out how much fun he has when Tanya’s sleep-talking and why he looked like a gangly T-rex with wonky teeth when he was a teenager. As with his videos, no subject is off-limits, as Jim lifts the lid on his life and his relationships, sharing embarrassing stories and things he’s learnt along the way (trust us, the thing about kangaroos will really freak you out).
  • 147 Things: My User's Guide to the Universe, from Black Holes to Bellybuttons

    Jim Chapman

    (Sidgwick & Jackson, Dec. 1, 2017)
From YouTube superstar, TV presenter, model and fact-obsessive oversharer Jim Chapman comes a hilarious user's guide to the universe. In 147 Things, Jim takes us on a whistle-stop tour of the best bits of everything, from the mind-blowing to the ridiculous. As with his videos, no subject is off-limits and he’ll lift the lid on his life and his relationships, sharing embarrassing stories and things he’s learnt along the way. If you’ve ever felt weirded out by the fact we’re seven billion (mostly) hairless apes spinning around a giant ball of flaming gas, or that we all begin as tiny humans INSIDE our mothers, or that many of us keep slightly-less-dangerous wolves in our homes, then you need this book in your life. Jim wants to inspire you with the sheer unlikelihood of us all being here and equip you to feel just a little less overwhelmed by the small stuff

  • The Alex Gunn Archives: Volume 1 - The Interview

    M.J. Chapman*

    language (M.J. Chapman*, Aug. 27, 2014)
The year is 2113. Britain has spent the last fifteen years recovering from a half century long war with mainland Europe; a war that desolated and destroyed unrelentingly; a war that tortured and took unforgivingly; a war that exacted mass bloodshed indiscriminately.Everybody lost something… for too many it was their life. But that was then, and this is now. Things are getting better. The country’s prospects are looking up. Hope is beginning to be restored. Those who were lucky enough to survive the conflict, while forever burdened by the memories of the past, at least can look forward to a future full of promise.Britain has re-emerged from the ashes like a phoenix and has somehow established itself once again as one of the world’s leading superpowers. Crime is down, health and wellbeing are up, and people are just about starting to smile again. And it is all thanks, predominately, to the entrepreneurial exploits of one man; Robert Stone.…..Fast forward nearly eighteen years and the picture is very different. The population is on edge again. Fear lingers in the air like a foul smell once more. The Death Penalty has been reintroduced. Punishment can be passed down to future generations. The hope that had been denied people for so long has once again slipped away like water through a sieve, and the echoes of unrest have spread to all four corners of the globe like a plague.Something happened. Something really, really terrible happened. And the whole world knows that there is only one person alive who is to blame. So, is there any wonder that this journalist is so desperate to meet Alex Gunn?
  • I'm not Sleepy!

    Jane Chapman

Hardcover (Little Tiger Press, Jan. 1, 2016)
A little owlet employs a big bag of tricks when Grandma tries to get him to settle down to sleep. Grandma carries little Mo to the top of the tree when it's bedtime. She smoothes some leaves into a soft nest and lays Mo carefully in the middle. "Play with me?" Mo giggles. "No, Sweetie, it's time for bed," Grandma responds. She reads in pleasant silence for a while, until Mo calls out that he hasn't had his bedtime snack. With effort, Grandma flies down to get it (a cookie, disappointingly, not a vole) and bring it back up to Mo, who again asks to play. Grandma's answer is the same. Not even leaves falling from the nest onto her head or Mo's loud declaration that "It's an emergency!" changes her mind. But she does come up with a plan. She will go to sleep, and Mo, after putting her to bed, can play to his heart's content. Mo is delighted, but he finds that the effort of arranging a nest for Grandma and flying down to get her bedtime snack has made him...sleepy. At last, he settles into his makeshift nest, and Grandma has a chance to read her book in peace. Chapman's story is simple and hardly original but pitch-perfect. Her owls look soft and friendly, and her backgrounds use an appropriately warm palette that frames them nicely. An ideal story for those who prefer softer edges to their bedtime shenanigans.
