  • Bowie's Books: The Hundred Literary Heroes Who Changed His Life

    John O'Connell

Hardcover (Bloomsbury Publishing, Nov. 14, 2019)
David Bowie once said that his idea of perfect happiness was reading. Three years before he died, he made a list of the one hundred books that had transformed his life - a list that formed something akin to an autobiography. From Lolita to Madame Bovary, the Beano to The Iliad, these were the books that had fuelled his creativity and shaped who he was. In Bowie's Books, John O'Connell explores this list in the form of one hundred short essays, each offering a perspective on the man, performer and creator that is Bowie, his work as an artist and the era that he lived in. Bowie's Books is much more than a list of books you should read in your lifetime: it is a unique insight into one of the greatest minds of our times, and an indispensable part of the legacy that Bowie left behind.

(CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, May 18, 2015)
This is the classic story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Only, the town always believes the boy. Every single time. Written with a bit of satire, a good dose of humor, and a hint of tragedy; Littledon! is an entertaining read that turns the fable on its head. As the lie gets bigger and bigger, the days get stranger and stranger. Expect to laugh a little and expect to shake your head some as well. Just be glad you're not this gullible, and maybe wonder how gullible everyone else in the world actually is.
  • The Mouse in the House

    Bruce Bender, Jimmy O'Connell

    Paperback (AuthorHouse, July 8, 2005)
The Mouse in the House is a Christmas poem for children, but I''ve yet to meet an adult who didn''t enjoy the tale. I originally wrote it as a Christmas letter. I knew it was good, but I was unprepared for the enthusiastic response I received from those who read it. An artist friend of mine, Jimmy O''Connell, enjoyed it so much that he donated his talent (and much of his time) to illustrate the published edition. We spend a night with a timid little mouse, who lives in the basement ceiling of a home that belongs to a kind, older couple. She scampers around at night, collecting trinkets and hoarding them back to her cozy little home. On Christmas eve, she is astounded to see a tree in the house! Exploring further, she discovers the nativity crèche, where the Baby Jesus gives her a truly wonderful present. The Mouse in the House became an instant Christmas Classic in our family, as it did for many of our friends. It is a special Christmas experience and it is my hope that others will enjoy it as much as we do.
