In Meet the Hutchinson Sunbeams enjoy a brief look at the way the family was raised and a glimpse of Jeanette's hope to memorialize the journey in children's books series. Hutchinson Sunbeams became famous for singing in churches long before their voices were heard around the world as the Emotions. During the 20th century in Chicago when great gospel music singers like Mahalia Jackson, The Wings of Heaven, The Norfleet Brothers, Albertina Walker and the Caravans (Shirley Ceasar was then one of the Caravans), Staple Singers and Willa Saunders Jones were ministering. Joe Hutchinson's daughters were appearing on radio and television too. Singing the harmonies that he taught them in commercials to sell Pontiacs on 47th Street for Al Abrams. At ages of four, five and six the Hutchinson Sunbeams voices were becoming known in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin & Michigan. 13 years singing all types of spirituals, hymns and even standards like Cool Water, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Blue Danube Waltz, Holiday For Strings, Trees, and Ave Maria; as Dad used these sheets of music to teach them to read music. All long before the opportunity to record and become known as the Emotions - opening up the world of entertainment to them!
