  • Yes, I'm Jane: Freshman

    Jonathan Chandler

    eBook (, June 28, 2019)
Jane Roberts is a young black queer high schooler that lives in the conservative town of Northpeak, Connecticut and attends John Thomas Preparatory School. It's at John Thomas, a school that is predominately white, that Jane feels for the most part that he does not belong. Jane is not the biggest fan of his school, having to deal with issues such as covert racism and constant reminders that he will never fit in on the social ladder, no matter how many friends he think he has. The headmaster of his school Duke Dunger is an older black man who is constantly making uncomfortable comments to Jane and believes that most people of his own race, cause trouble. One day Jane gets singled out and receives detention for having his electronics out in class, though the majority of his class had theirs out as well. While in detention Jane meets Louis Chavez, a new transfer student who was also singled out by the administration out of several kids for showing up late to class. It's in detention where they bond and grow a fondness for each other. While hanging out with each other, Louis decides to kiss Jane and while they both enjoyed the moment, Dunger catches them red handed. From there, their lives go down hill. From threats of suspension, to numerous protests from both sides of the argument, Jane's life is now the forefront to many political and social conversations in the media. Will Jane prevail and overcome this? Or he will he crumble to those who want to see him fail?

Moreover, they want a cook book that looks quite cool and grown-up, has lots of interesting and fun facts about food background, but that doesn't include recipes for rice crispy cakes and doesn't patronise. This books aims to do just that – to empower kids to a point where they could put a great supper on the table (with a bit of help/guidance for the first few years) and then give them a few exotic dishes with which to show off. This is NOT 'children's food', but real, achievable dishes that teach children about how to eat healthily, shop cannily and learn the vital basic cooking skills to set them up for life.Alongside the classic recipes for muffins and a great birthday cake, you will also find nutritious ideas such as fish en papilotte, adventurous stir fries, vegetable slaws or homemade granola. 50 recipes will teach the basic skills and offer variations to build on those skills. With easy-to-follow step-by-step photography, a fun graphic style to the food facts and kitchen safety, plus loads of basic info on how to shop, plan and balance your diet, this is the book to get kids cooking properly for life.

  • The Girl Who Walked Home Alone: Bette Davis - A Personal Biography

    Chandler C

Paperback (Applause Books, March 1, 2007)
Noted film biographer Charlotte Chandler interviewed Bette Davis extensively in the last decade of her life, resulting in a biography in which the great actress speaks for herself. Chandler also spoke with directors, actors, and others who knew and worked with Davis, and includes brief synopses of all of her theatrical films. Here are some more examples of Bette's wit to be found within these pages: "I'm the one who didn't get the man, which is the more interesting character on the screen, but in real life sometimes I wish I could just have been the girl who got the man, and kept him. I got four husbands and several lovers, but I didn't keep any of them. I was invited to the White House, but no man stayed to share my white cottage." "My favorite actor with whom I never played, professionally or personally, was Laurence Olivier. I admired everything about him. He was a great actor, and he was my dream man. Literally and figuratively. Larry was my fantasy lover, the perfect man, or at least I thought he would be. He was not only beautiful, but intelligent."
