From Christian author Janice Thompson comes a fanciful Pilgrim's Progress-like tale for upper elementary/middle grades and above. Zaney Muldaney may be headstrong and perhaps even a little loopy at times, but she knows “in her heart of hearts” that help is never far away, should she need it. With great excitement, Zaney sets out on her journey to Kingdom Come, colorful patchwork bag firmly clutched in hand. She is only slightly unprepared for the people she meets along the way: a prince who dreams of becoming an artist, Hood-Winker and the purple tiger, the Insiders and an evil hunter, just to name a few. Hoping for a life of adventure, Zaney is not disappointed. She meets it at every turn. An allegorical thread ties the chapters of Zaney Muldaney’s life together. After finding and losing the prince she has longed for, she faces Jungle Fever, Hollow Hill, Salsa, the Land of Chatter, and the State of Denial. Helpful characters try to steer her in every conceivable direction. Zaney learns, through the characters of Chick-a-Pea and Chick-a-Pod what genuine relationships are all about. She sails above her circumstances with Avis the Aviator, and is refreshed with a never-ending stream of lolly-water, which energizes her to face the world and carry on with her journey.THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY: This fun tale is loosely based on John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, the story of a Christian on a journey toward the Celestial City (Heaven). In this “Zaney” version, (which has a Wizard of Oz/Alice in Wonderland feel), Zaney Muldaney meets all sorts of wacky characters on her journey to Kingdom Come. Along the way, she learns a lot about herself and about the journey. Like Zaney, we are all on a journey of our own. May each step you take move you closer to the heart of the One who placed you on the path in the first place."I am who I have become and I am content to be where I am going." - Zaney Muldaney
