Compass is a beautifully simple tale about learning to appreciate the small moments in life and is written as a stage play, but published as a short story. Itâs about a young girl Amelia and her best friend, Bert; who spend summer days fishing by the lake. Not necessarily to catch fish, mostly just to spend time together and have fun.One day, they encounter an older man, named Compass who tells them, âto catch more fish, you should sing to them.âThinking he was just a crazy man, they disregard his idea until the next day, out of curiosity, they try singing to the fish and miraculously, it worked. The catch loads of fish, ultimately bringing much happiness. However, it doesnât last as with many relationships in life, they drift apart. Forgetting the important lessons taught by Compass. As adults, they are unhappy with life, empty and miserable. Amelia is in a pitiful marriage to an alcoholic, Bert is forever seeking duplication of that first love, always seeking beauty but still he remains unhappy until serendipitous circumstances offer them both a reminder of Compass's words of wisdom, ultimately filling their life with joy.Compass is written in the style of a fable, a philosophical story to warm your insides and remind you of what truly brings happiness in life. If youâre a fan of Candide by Voltaire or the style of Chekhov then youâre certain to fall in love with Compass.Still not convinced? Hereâs what others had to say about Compass:Word candy for your soul. â
