By now, Cat realised, all of her friends were probably dead. No doubt slaughtered as they’d tried to escape the church. Any that had survived were surely, by now, being hunted down and eviscerated by the creatures that had invaded her home.She hoped that their deaths were quick and that they, unlike her, hadn't been singled out for any special treatment. The Master had told her he’d very specific, very intimate plans for her once she was turned; she shuddered at the thought, at the memory of his caress.She would rather be dead than let him touch her again, but she doubted that option was available to her.Cat glanced over at the corner of the cell, the fine hairs on the back of her neck rising as a cold wash of terror ran down her body. At some point during the last twenty minutes the corpse had definitely begun to squirm. She'd seen his right thumb twitch slightly at first. Just noticing the slight whitening of the skin as it pressed gently against the bare concrete floor. The movements were small, almost inconsequential to begin with. Cat desperately wanted to believe that her eyes were playing tricks on her, that she was simply tired and dehydrated. That she was simple imaging things. But as she watched the body closely, transfixed with fear, the twitching became more rapid, more consistent, and without doubt more deliberate.“Damn,” she groaned, the word forced through tightly gritted teeth, her voice echoing back to her in the almost empty room. He was absolutely, definitely, one hundred percent moving.The yellow light from the single bulb cast a pale, sickly glow on his pale, yellowing skin and left no doubt about his current lack of mortality.
