  • War of the Preps

    Justin Burkholder

eBook (Justin Burkholder, Dec. 28, 2015)
Welcome to Silver Grove! Population 1147…. Every small town is an entire world to those who dwell within its confines. And of what those isolated citizens may see on TV, or in a local newspaper, or perhaps even in a magazine, are all but fantasy's to be forgotten only moments later. In general, the outside world cares little for these people, and they in turn care little of the outside world. But, every little town has their own dirty little secrets and those dirty little secrets become so much of everyday life that those townsfolk do not, or rather, can not see that they are in fact dirty. It is not until someone of great fortitude happens to come along and get a glimpse of those secrets that they may take a more open point of view. Then, even more rare, only someone with the prowess to open their eyes, as well as the eyes of the outside world, can ever hope to make a change.Silver Grove's secret is, and has been for generations, that if one was to live in this overly prosperous community, one must be of outstanding heritage. That someone would have to be high on the social ladder. This atmosphere has attracted many rich, white citizens. Doctors, Lawyers, Business Entrepreneurs, and the like take up residence within this…wealthy community. The Dirtiness sets in when those who do not float the bill also decide, for one reason or another, to move in; the low income struggling man, or the non-Caucasian for example. The whole community bands together, instinctively and unconsciously to, in one fashion or another, make life a living nightmare for these less fortunate citizens. After generations… a group of teenage boys, unite to survive the town they live in…the town of Silver Grove, and what they'll accomplish is nothing short of legendary. Let me open your eyes to a story that takes us back to an age just prior to the mass usage of cell phones and laptops. Before Window’s 98; the year that Bill Clinton Succeeded George H.W. Bush as 42nd president of the United States; the year of Rodney King; Waco Texas; The brutal year Lorena Bobbitt decides to do some cutlery work on her husband John Wayne Bobbitt; CERN gives birth to the World Wide Web; Afghanistan, and Yugoslavia were both engaged in Civil wars…and of course, the influence of Generation X is excelled to heights and idea’s of Anarchy and rebellion which are never more powerful …the year 1993. This is the year that the unity known as, 'The Circle', decides it is time to strike back. If they ever want to chance at a happy, comfortable life…it means war. Welcome to Book 1 of the Circle Trilogy. Welcome to THE WAR OF THE PREPS!

  • The Anatomy of the Brain: A Manual for Students and Practitioners of Medicine

    J. F. Burkholder

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Dec. 4, 2017)
Excerpt from The Anatomy of the Brain: A Manual for Students and Practitioners of MedicineImmediately after the publication of the first edition of this laboratory introduction to the study of neurological anatomy, the author began the preparation of a serial sec tion of the brain-stem of the sheep, stained by the Pal Weigart method. This piece of research was due to the desire on the part of the writer to substantiate his convie tions, that the relationships of the components of the brain stem of the sheep would prove as useful in teaching the architecture of the corresponding region of the human brain, as the grosser parts have been. That this is true can be convincingly affirmed, by comparing plates XXXII to XXXVIII, inclusive, of the present edition, with illustra tions of the analogous regions of the human brain, that may be found in auv authoritative work on descriptive human anatomy.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
