2012 EDITIONTHE BOOK OF THE ANIMALS:FUN LEARNING FOR CHILDREN AND PARENTSWhat are certainly the most occurring moments in a parent’s life? When their child doesn’t want to wash, eat, sleep, go to school, share, take medicine, get vaccinated... And what can a parent answer to these refusals? The successful “Book of The Animals” bilingual children’s books series was created with the aim to help both parents and children to discover the benefits of washing, eating, sleeping, going to school, sharing, taking medicine, getting vaccinated... in a fun as well as educational manner. Since the books are also bilingual, parents will enjoy the teaching and the interactivity they can gain from reading them with their children.THE AUDIENCEThe books are geared towards children aged 2-5, before elementary/primary school. They will likely be bilingual children whose parents want to encourage the learning of their two current languages. They will also be children whose parents want to teach a language at a young age. Some teachers have also been using the books of the series as a way to teach a second language to children, with themes easy for them to both understand and memorise.THE CURRENT BOOKSThere are currently seven books in the series. Each episode brings on new animals, new words, new situations and new stories.- Ep.1. “These Animals... Don't Want to Wash!” (2008)- Ep.2. “These Animals... Don't Want to Eat!” (2009)- Ep.3. “These Animals... Don't Want to Sleep!” (2010)- Ep.4. “These Animals... [...] These delightful books tell the story of what happens when the animals in the stories, like many young children, don’t want to eat and don’t want to wash...The books are very suitable both for reading to young children and for older children to use to learn to read in both languages. They might even persuade them to wash and eat their dinner! The repetitive structure is supportive of children learning new words and the illustrations work well alongside the text to help understanding of unfamiliar words.I can easily imagine young children demanding repeat readings and enjoying learning the text by heart as many children do with favourite stories. Children learning to make up and write their own stories might well want to write a personalised version, using the structure as a prop.I think the stories would work well both in the home and in the classroom."(Review published in The Cass School of Education, by Dr Raymonde Sneddon, Research Fellow for “The Cass School of Education” at the University of East London, and Honorary Research Fellow of Birkbeck College, in the Department of Applied Linguistics)SUPPORT‘The Book of The Animals’ series is supported & recommended by ABRIR UK, a Brazilian Association for Educational Projects in the United Kingdom. www.Abrir.org.ukOfficial website: TheBookOfTheAnimals.com

  • The Book of The Animals - Episode 1

    J N Paquet

Paperback (JNPAQUET Books Ltd, Sept. 17, 2015)
The animals are back! This delightful series tells the story of what happens when the animals, like many young children, don’t want to wash, eat, sleep, behave, share, go to school, take their medicine, or get vaccinated. In Episode 1, we talk about washing and personal hygiene. Our little readers will find that their favourite animals don’t want to wash: “No, no, no... I don’t want to wash!”... What can we do about it? There is something special about this new book and one can only imagine how much it can benefit to so many children because of the very message it conveys about personal hygiene learning for children. The book will also please all the parents who struggle with their little ones at bath time or at any other moment when personal hygiene is paramount. Written by J.N. PAQUET and illustrated by a new illustrator, Award winner illustrator Lizette Duvenage, "The Book of The Animals - Secong Generation" signals the return of the delightful and popular animals series that already told the story of what happens when the animals, like many young children, don’t want to wash, eat, sleep, go to school, share, take their medicine and get vaccinated. The parents will enjoy the teaching and the interactivity they can gain from reading the book with their children. The books are geared towards children aged 2-6, before elementary/primary school. They will likely be bilingual children whose parents want to encourage the learning of their two current languages. They will also be children whose parents want to teach a language at a young age. Some teachers have also been using the books of the series as a way to teach a second language to children, with themes easy for them to both understand and memorise. WHY SECOND GENERATION? JNPAQUET Books Ltd had been planning a complete relaunch of the popular children’s books series for many months, in what is known as “The Book of The Animals - Second Generation”. The relaunch will see every single existing episode being updated and totally redesigned with new illustrations (and a new illustrator on board!), new texts and some fun-learning quizzes on every page! (for the bilingual books only) This relaunch is mainly aimed at a new generation of little readers and their parents who may, or may not, know the original series, with even more children friendly illustrations and more educational stories, based on the feedback we have received from both children and parents at Author Visits and Storytelling events given in schools, playgroups and libraries across the UK, since the launch of “The Book of The Animals”, in 2008. The “Second Generation” books of the series are still being written by the creator of the series, J.N. PAQUET, and illustrated by Award winner illustrator Lizette Duvenage. The new books will gradually be replacing the old edition with a launch every 3-4 months over the next 15 months.

"Wakey Wakey!" by children's author J.N. PAQUET, is a bedtime and/or a post-bathtime story that was created with the aim to introduce bilingualism to the younger children (Aged 0-3). It can be used for children as young as 6 months old to introduce two languages through easy daily vocabulary. The book captures the little ones' imagination with some funny, original and colourful handmade illustrations, a delightful story with a repetitive structure that helps children to learn new words and situations, and an easy bilingual vocabulary that parents will enjoy as much as their children. Beware: parents will definitely be asked to repeat the readings again and again, while their little ones will be learning the story by heart! The story may even be used, with older children, to create their own stories, using the structure as a prop. Wishing for a delightful Fun-Learning time with your 0-3 year old? Look no further! THE AUDIENCE - The book is geared towards children aged 0-3. - They will likely be bilingual children whose parents want to encourage the learning of their two current languages. - They will also be children whose parents want to teach a language at a very young age.---"WAKEY WAKEY! / ACORDA ACORDA!" • Littlefaces: Something bad happened. Let's talk about it!

    J.N. Paquet

eBook (JNPAQUET Books Ltd, March 27, 2016)
How do you explain something like the London, Paris or Brussels terror attacks to a child? This book could help both children and parents.Millions of parents across the globe struggle to explain to their children the horrific events that happen in Paris, Brussels, Ankara, Jakarta, Istanbul, Beirut, Grand-Bassam, Yaounde, Mogadishu, Ouagadougou, Lahore, etc. Since other children or adults at school will probably mention them or talk about them, how do you explain something like that to a child? For a children’s author, this has to be the most difficult piece to write. After hours trying to put into easy words various feelings and images he had seen from TV footage and internet reports, J.N. PAQUET eventually wrote a story, which he thinks might help children and parents when such terrible events happen. The text of the story is as specific and at the same time as general as possible, so that it could be read to any child anywhere, because terrorism acts are not confined to one location only.ADVICE TO PARENTS: Sometimes, what we imagine can be worse than what we actually see. That's why expressing our feeling through writing or drawing can help free our mind, and so, help us to move on.“It is crucial that children can talk about their feelings following these senseless killings, and are given reassurance and support.”(Peter Wanless / Chief executive of the NSPCC)If you are still unsure what to say or what to do to explain something like a terrorist attack to your children, follow the NSPCC advice to parents on talking about difficult topics: www.nspcc.org.uk/talkingtipsFor more advice you may also watch the video "How should you talk to your children about terrorism": www.thetimes.co.uk/nspcc/Finally, for more information, visit the NSPCC website: www.nspcc.org.uk(The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is a charity campaigning and working in child protection in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands.)
