  • Tip Lewis and His Lamp

    Isabella Alden

Paperback (ICON Group International, Inc., June 4, 2008)
Webster's edition of this classic is organized to expose the reader to a maximum number of synonyms and antonyms for difficult and often ambiguous English words that are encountered in other works of literature, conversation, or academic examinations. Extremely rare or idiosyncratic words and expressions are given lower priority in the notes compared to words which are ¿difficult, and often encountered¿ in examinations. Rather than supply a single synonym, many are provided for a variety of meanings, allowing readers to better grasp the ambiguity of the English language, and avoid using the notes as a pure crutch. Having the reader decipher a word's meaning within context serves to improve vocabulary retention and understanding. Each page covers words not already highlighted on previous pages. If a difficult word is not noted on a page, chances are that it has been highlighted on a previous page. A more complete thesaurus is supplied at the end of the book; synonyms and antonyms are extracted from Webster's Online Dictionary. Leopold is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. • Twenty Minutes Late

    Isabella M. Alden

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Feb. 2, 2018)
Excerpt from Twenty Minutes LateIt would be difficult to describe the state of excitement into which this letter threw Caroline Bryant. She remembered taking a journey with her mother on the cars when she was nine years old - a journey of seven hours' duration - and the marvelous experiences of that day she sometimes went over, even now, for Daisy's benefit. It was her one journey, and she had all an intelligent girl's longing for travel and the experiences to be gained by travel. The very toot-toot of the engine, as it halted for a few seconds at the depot around the corner, and then hurried on with increased speed, apparently sorry for having lost so much time, made her cheek flush and her heart beat faster. What joy it would have been to have taken a journey all by herself - quite a long journey too, nearly a hundred miles.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
