  • Spanish-American War: A Captivating Guide to the War Between the United States of America and Spain along with The Philippine–American War that Followed

    Captivating History

    eBook
If you want to discover the captivating history of the Spanish-American War, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside! Two captivating manuscripts in one book:The Spanish-American War: A Captivating Guide to the Armed Conflict Between the United States of America and Spain That Took Place after the U.S. Intervened in the Cuban War of IndependenceThe Philippine–American War: A Captivating Guide to the Philippine Insurrection That Started When the United States of America Claimed Possession of the Philippines after the Spanish–American WarThe Spanish-American War really only lasted about ten weeks (the buildup and decision to go to war took longer than the war itself), but a peace treaty was not signed until December of 1898. This was an event that was the tipping point for the end of the Spanish Empire and the rise of the US as a formidable player on the world stage. Not all Americans were happy with the change, with famous Americans like Mark Twain speaking out about the US occupation of the lands that it was meant to save. This breach was seen as being as antithetical to American ideals as bowing to the English crown would have been seen during the American Revolution. Still, the isolationist's view of the country was no longer popular, and more Americans wished to play a larger part in the world. The ideology of the country was not entirely different than it had been, but it was moving more toward the superpower it eventually became by the end of World War II. America had finally taken strides to match the might and power of the other Western countries, and it was increasingly more difficult to ignore the events around the world once they had lands to protect so far from the mainland. Some of the topics covered in part 1 of this book include:Spain’s Waning InfluenceAmerica – A Country Itching to Break out of IsolationismBuilding TensionsAmerica's Sensationalized Sympathy with CubaRemember the Maine! – An Excuse for WarA Brief War with Huge ImplicationsRough Riders – The Beginning of the Legend of Theodore RooseveltHow the Smoked Yankees Ensured Roosevelt’s SuccessThe Price of PeaceThe Anti-Imperialist LeagueThe Foraker Act of 1900 and New TerritoriesThe Tense Relationship between Cuba and the USHalf-Way around the World – The Philippine-American RelationshipA Changed WorldAnd much, much more! Some of the topics covered in part 2 of this book include:A Quick OverviewThe World After RomeEnding a Dynasty – Pepin, Charles, and CarlomanThe Conquests of CharlesIn the Name of ReligionPope Leo III and the Founding of an EmpireThe Carolingian Renaissance – The Empire under CharlemagneThe Rule of Louis the PiousFamilial Strife and the Decay of the EmpireThe Division Effectively Ending the EmpireEchoes of the Roman Empire – How Outside Forces Picked Apart the Carolingian EmpireLasting Effects and Hope of ReunificationAnd much, much more!So if you want to learn more about the history of the Spanish-American War and Philippine–American War, scroll up and click the "add to cart" button!
  • Minoans: A Captivating Guide to an Essential Bronze Age Society in Ancient Greece Called the Minoan Civilization

    Captivating History

    eBook
If you want to discover the captivating history of the Minoans, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside! The Minoans continue to be an intriguing subject for modern audiences because they are like a puzzle missing half of its pieces. Individuals have a rough idea of what it might look like, but there could be surprises no one even thinks of because all traces of the image are gone. For archaeologists, historians, tourists, scholars, fans of mythology, and students of the ancient world, the Minoans are this broken puzzle. The Minoans were an ancient civilization that built their settlements on islands in the Aegean Sea. They lived almost 5,000 years ago and left behind traces of their lives but not enough for people to create a complete picture. Ever since the early 20th century, the Minoans have been a subject of interest thanks to the discoveries and excavations by Sir Arthur Evans, a British archaeologist who found the first Minoan ruins and named them after the mythological King Minos and his Minotaur. Evans was able to gain almost sole access to the lands of the Cretan government for excavation by paying for it with funds generated by his supporters in 1900. He and his crew unearthed the massive palace complex of Knossos, one of the most famous archaeological excavation sites in history. From the work of Evans and others, the puzzle of the Minoans has slowly gained more pieces. Through the study of material culture, modern audiences now know quite a bit about artistic techniques, favorite subjects, fashion, daily life, gender roles, and who the Minoans traded with. An observer can tell that the Minoans were a seafaring mercantile civilization, that they built magnificent urban centers, and that they had a form of proto-writing. In Minoans: A Captivating Guide to an Essential Bronze Age Society in Ancient Greece Called the Minoan Civilization, you will discover topics such asWhere and When Did the Minoans Live?Known History of the Minoans before the MycenaeansSociety, Culture, and Daily LifeTrade and Shipbuilding on the Mediterranean SeaLanguage and Linear AThe Potential Predecessors of Greek ReligionArtArchitectureTheories about the Collapse of CivilizationAnd much, much more!So if you want to learn more about the Minoans, scroll up and click the "add to cart" button!

    eBook (Newcos, April 19, 2019)
If you want to discover the captivating history of Classical Antiquity, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside! From about the 9th to 5th centuries BCE, the population of Greece grew unprecedently large, expanding from about 800,000 people to as many as 13 million. Bigger families meant bigger armies and larger communities that would eventually grow into the metropolises of Classical Greece. This incredible stretch of time is called Classical Antiquity; the age in which Western civilization first realized its potential and place in the world. The era brought on big changes for all the people of the Mediterranean. Thanks to new agricultural methods, seafaring technology, and trade, great civilizations sprang up around the sea, building large urban centers full of artists, merchants, political thinkers, scientists, and philosophers. • The Salem Witch Hunt: A Captivating Guide to the Hunt and Trials of People Accused of Witchcraft in Colonial Massachusetts

    Captivating History

Paperback (Captivating History, Aug. 4, 2019)
If you want to discover the captivating history of the Salem Witch Hunt, then keep reading...Decades after witch-hunting had begun to die down in Europe, North America was about to witness its bloodiest witch hunt in history. The Massachusetts of 1692 was a very different one to the state we know today. Populated by colonists, many of them a generation or less from life in an England bathed in religious turmoil, Massachusetts was not the safe haven that the fleeing Puritans had hoped it would be. Persecuted for their faith in Europe, the Puritans had pictured a kind of utopia founded on biblical principles. They saw the New World as a new beginning, a kind of second chance for humanity. It would be only 72 years after the arrival of the Mayflower that the events in Salem would make it blatantly obvious that humanity had already blown it again. This is not the story of the trials. This is the story of its people. This is not an attempt to explain the events of 1692. It is an attempt to bring to life the victims who died so unjustly. In this book, we will walk side by side with the destitute Sarah Good as she realizes that after having lost all she owns, her reputation, her baby, and even her life will still be taken from her. We stand at the bar with Rebecca Nurse, a sweet little old lady who is sentenced to hang for what she must have perceived to be the most heinous of crimes. We witness George Burroughs at the gallows, a former minister now condemned to die for his supposed alliance with Satan, as he delivers a speech so stirring that it takes quick thinking from his enemies to prevent the crowd from rushing forth to cut him down. We feel our own breaths catching as we watch the cruel and greedy Sheriff George Corwin piling rocks onto the fragile eighty-year-old body of Giles Corey, who is determined to die without entering a plea so that his sons will still get the inheritance he promised them.We will walk through this history in the footprints of those who suffered the hardest in it. The Salem witch hunt and trials killed many and ruined the lives of countless others. And this is their story. In The Salem Witch Hunt: A Captivating Guide to the Hunt and Trials of People Accused of Witchcraft in Colonial Massachusetts, you will discover topics such asWitches in EuropeSalemStrange AfflictionsThe Affliction of Elizabeth HubbardThe Confession of TitubaFuel on the FireThe Madness IntensifiesThe Reverend in League with the DevilThe First CasualtyHangingA Bid for MercyThe Reverend HangsCrushedEight Innocent FirebrandsGlimmers of SenseNot GuiltyThe Last CasualtyLife After the TrialsThe Second SalemRemembering SalemAnd much, much more!So if you want to learn more about the Salem Witch Hunt, scroll up and click the "add to cart" button!

  • The Scientific Revolution: A Captivating Guide to the Emergence of Modern Science During the Early Modern Period, Including Stories of Thinkers Such as Isaac Newton and RenĂ© Descartes

    Captivating History

    eBook
If you want to discover the captivating history of the Scientific Revolution, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside!Ancient cultures have been looking up at the stars for thousands of years, wondering about their place in the universe. What were those glowing spots in the black cover of night? Just how far away was the moon? These and other questions hounded humanity through the millennia until, finally, relative economic stability allowed for a number of people to examine their world more closely. Slowly, knowledge and understanding accumulated generation by generation until the conditions were ideal enough for a revolution to occur in thinking, experimentation, worldview, and natural philosophy. It was the Scientific Revolution, the time period when Western theologians had more and better tools to measure and make sense of the things around them. With careful measurements, precise data collection, and an unwavering sense of curiosity, humankind stepped into the future. The truly magnificent feature of this time period, besides, of course, the scientific discoveries themselves, was the kinship between philosophers, scientists, and experimental hobbyists throughout Europe. Hundreds, if not thousands, of letters between great intellectuals such as Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, Robert Hooke, and Tycho Brahe have been preserved, demonstrating how these men (and a few women) worked in cooperation with one another in order to better their own research. But, in order to do so, the Americans waged wars against the Native Americans who had roamed the lands for thousands of years, driving them away from their homes in a brutal and horrific manner.
