It makes for excellent research material for book reports and other papers.As World War expanded, there was a need to attract more women to the newly formed branch of the war effort . Women who were high school graduates and U.S. citizens between the ages of 18 and 34 were eligible. The initial 500 hour flight time requirement soon became 200 hours, then 100, and finally dropped to 35 hours, when the realm of women trained as civilian pilots decreased. The women had to pass the same physical and mental tests as the men and they drew $172.50 a month. The WASP were at their peak efficiency in December 1944 and had compiled an impressive record. They delivered 12,650 planes of 77 different types. The WASP flew fifty percent of all the high-speed pursuit planes ferried in the United States. More than 25,000 women applied to the WASP and of the 1,830 women admitted, 1,074 graduated and they flew more than 60 million miles. Thirty-eight lost their lives in accidents
