Our Island Story is a children's history book written by Henrietta Elizabeth Marshall. The book was first published in 1905 in London and it had since become one of the most popular children's books in the world.It is said that Marshall started writing this book in order to answer the questions of her children about the history of Great Britain. The book contains both historical facts about the island as well as legends and myths. Marshall manages to create a unique book that both educated children as well as inspires their imagination.In her book, Marshall manages to cover the history of England from ancient times when the Romans ruled there to the death of Queen Victoria. It mixes both traditional storytelling as well as mythology that can really capture the imagination of small children.While the book does provide a great deal of detail and historical fact about Great Britain, it also contains details which might not be entirely accurate such as the part covering King Richard which is taken from Shakespeare's work. However, this didn't stop Marshall's book from becoming one of the most popular and loved history books in the world. Up until the 1950s and 60s, all schools in England had at least one copy. Now efforts are being made to reprint these series and spread them throughout schools.While it doesn't excel in accurate historical facts, this book has been praised for its ability to nurture the interest of children into learning more about the history of their great nation.
