    M. H. B. Hughes

eBook (Millicent Hughes, Sept. 21, 2019)
As the Revolutionary War Heats up, a Boy's Hometown World Burns Down!1777 - Danbury on Fire! is an all-ages historical novel of the Revolution. From dinner party to disaster, the reader follows a boy through the days surrounding the British raid on a small-town Connecticut Patriot commissary. From dinner party to decapitation, Joe Hamilton rushes from one disaster to the next until he faces the flames - and freezes....Young Joe Hamilton's prominent family has split over the war: his Patriot grandfather has threatened Joe's pacifist father with jail for not enlisting. Now the redcoat invasion forces all the characters to abandon their beliefs and protect their families and friends from the consequences of their own acts. Snips from historical documents are seeded through the text to prove the truth of the fact-driven plot. From British generals to the put-upon Tory neighbor and his overworked daughter, here are real people doing exactly what they did in April of 1777. A bibliography is included, plus the characters' lives after the war. A. M. Hughes

language (Lodestone Books, Dec. 11, 2015)
It looked like a paper cut, but sixteen-year-old Dylan Lord is discovering just how painful lies can be. Every lie she tells or hears causes physical pain. It isn't coincidence this started with Jack. He’s there to teach her to be a “Fide”; to feel and heal lies. She wants to believe nothing is happening. A letter opener sliced her hand, not her mother’s “I love you.” The cuts opening on her arms as she walks through her high school were already there, but it’s not working. Every wound she suffers Jack does too. When a lie rips open across Dylan’s stomach, she must admit she isn't fine. She never asked for this. She doesn't want to be a walking lie detector, but not all lies can be covered with Band-Aids. The lies she hasn't fixed are spreading across her body, and she isn't the only one suffering. Jack is growing weaker. She has to hear the truth to heal. If she doesn't hear the truth soon, someone is going to die.

  • Long Distance Goodnight Kisses

    Ann M. Hughes

Paperback (Prince Performance Group, Feb. 1, 2015)
I have spent the majority of my career traveling. Pursuing a career I loved wasn't always easy because the trade-off was leaving Katie, my young daughter. I searched and searched for a book to read to Katie to let her know how much I loved her, even when I wasn't home. But it seems that book didn't exist so I decided to write one for all the parents and children in my same situation. Long Distance Goodnight Kisses shares the story of a working mom traveling across the country for a job she loves but struggling to let her young daughter know her first choice was being at home with her. This is a story of how long distance goodnight kisses helped bridge the gap that distance created. My hope is that other traveling parents can read this book to their children to let them know that no matter how far away they are, love is always present. By parents sharing their careers with their children, they are setting an example that their children are loved dearly and can be anything they want to be when they grow up. And from this book, I want kids to understand that they are not alone in getting long distance goodnight kisses.
