  • 22 Accessible Road Trips: Driving Vacations for Wheelers and Slow Walkers

    Candy B Harrington

eBook (Demos Health, May 18, 2012)
Bronze Winner 2012 Foreword Reviews Book of The Year, Travel Guides Category22 Accessible Road Trips contains useful and detailed information about accessible travel, that's readable, informative and pertinent. The book is aimed at those who use wheelchairs, walkers or just have mobility issues. Organized geographically, the book is divided into 22 chapters, with each chapter detailing a loop driving route that can be completed in approximately 2-3 weeks. The routes are spaced throughout the US, with each route having a theme or a commonality. Each route begins in a gateway city with a major airport, so the trips can also be completed as fly-drive packages. And of course they can always be broken up into shorter trips, or even day excursions. Flexibility is the key with this book, with plenty of opportunity to personalize each route to meet individual tastes, time frames and budgets. Candy includes details about accessible lodging, sites, trails, attractions and restaurants. She also gives readers a real flavor of the drives, with off-the-beaten-path finds, unique roadside attractions and rural driving routes also included. After all, accessibility is in the eye of the beholder; and what may be accessible to one person can be filled with obstacles to someone else.

  • HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER: Evil Masterminds Who Evaded Capture

    Roger Harrington

Paperback (Independently published, May 8, 2017)
How To Get Away With Murder: Evil Masterminds Who Evaded Capture "There appear to be two types of situations in which one can be said to literally get away with murder. The first, and most common, is that the killer remained unknown until his criminal activity stopped. The second is that the killer was apprehended and tried, but was found innocent due to lack of evidence, loopholes in the justice system, or some other type of underhanded tactic. The cases which follow are all instances in which a perpetrator of a horrific crime evaded capture and continued to live their lives without repercussion. For each case, the actual truth is entirely unknown, and there exists the very real possibility that the killer (or killers) were imprisoned, died or suffered a similar deserved fate once their crimes ceased." Contains shocking true stories of evil murderers who got off scot-free, including serial killers who still remain at large. How To Get Away With Murder paints the true stories of some of the most horrific criminals to escape true justice.
  • SPIES: True Spy Stories: Hidden In Plain Sight

    Roger Harrington

    eBook
SPIES: True Spy Stories - Hidden In Plain SightThe concept of real life spies is one that is equally fascinating as it is rooted in mystery. Considering the obviously secretive nature of the job we don't truly know exactly what these individuals do until they either retire from a legitimate intelligence career. While the job title of spy has been retired for the more modernized titles of ā€œcovert investigatorā€ or simply ā€œintelligenceā€, the career path is still very much valid. With ever evolving technology and increased worldwide threats of terrorism, today spies have a more dangerous job than ever. The modern spy is employed by government intelligence agencies such as the CIA and KBG. These individuals must have extensive training in military and/or law enforcement as well as have abilities to work various jobs undercover. History has proven that not all successful spies and those convicted of espionage have to be highly trained professionals. Many are ordinary people chosen to gather intelligence for their respective countries. This book is based on true spy stories, and the real life tales of the covert operators in our midst - hidden in plain sight.

  • REAL LIFE GANGSTERS: Pablo Escobar and Al Capone - 2 Books in 1

    Roger Harrington

Paperback (Independently published, Sept. 10, 2018)
REAL LIFE GANGSTERS: Pablo Escobar and Al Capone - 2 Books in 1 Featuringā€¦ *Pablo Escobar *Al Capone 2 Great Books in 1! Pablo Escobar The city of Medellin is the second-largest in the South American nation of Columbia. It is nestled in the Aburra Valley in the Andes ranges. On December 2 1992 citizens of the district of Los Olivos heard gunshots from the rooftops. They saw two men running across the orange ā€“ tiled roofs, pursued by a group of armed and uniformed men. A short gunfight ensued. Soon eight armed men, officers of the National Columbian Police, posed for photographs, brandishing weapons and smiling over the bloody corpse of a 44 year old man. That man was Pablo Emilia Escobar Gaviria, known in the annals of infamy simply as Pablo Escobar. He had been the most powerful drug lord in Colombia and one of the most notorious in the world. He was so pernicious that for a time he was number one on the hit list of the United States. He controlled the cocaine trade in the United States. He used wealth and terror to dominate Columbian politics and destroy his enemies. He openly flaunted his fantastic wealth, believing that he was untouchable. But there he was, a bare-footed, bloody corpse, his executioners shouting ā€˜Viva Columbia! Viva Columbia!ā€™ Al Capone Despite Caponeā€™s violent career and the brutality of his past, there is an on-going fascination with his life. Many fictitious characters have been modelled on him and the term ā€˜mobsterā€™ or ā€˜gangsterā€™ invariably conjures up an image of Al Capone. There have been plenty of books and articles covering his life and some of these have been made into films. In real life, Caponeā€™s influence was enough to change the law in order to deal with him. The 1927 Supreme Court ruling that income tax was due on criminal earnings was intended to help the authorities trap criminals and was instrumental in Caponeā€™s eventual downfall. This is the true story of the life and criminal career of Al Capone, the original American gangster, and one of the most feared criminals ever to have lived.
