    H.G. Packard

    language (, March 21, 2015)
Looking for a magical adventure full of danger and surprise? Join Billy Bob, his magic sneakers and friends for an exciting read. Billy Bob is an ordinary boy. He goes about his paper route with a jaunty walk and a big smile, wheeling his old red wagon talking to the people on his route. But something strange is about to happen that will take Billy Bob on many dangerous and magical adventures- a pair of magic sneakers with golden wings that fly.The magic the sneakers possess is just as curious to Billy Bob as the mysterious old woman that left the sneakers to him named Mrs. Care. The magic sneakers she gave him have a mind of their own and Billy Bob has no idea how to control them.Billy Bob is not alone on his adventures. He has his best friend Ned a giant kid that loves to eat with a magical kazoo and Charlie a girl in a wheelchair that soon finds out she has a wheelchair with extraordinary powers..Billy Bob and his friends face off against colorful villains such as Grumble Growly and his bumbling sidekicks Piddle Puddle, Apple Head, Mr. Pickle, Mrs. Quiet and Mrs. Jam. They delight in being villains but theyโ€™re not very good at it. This clean cut book for girls and boys is filled with over 800 pages of humor, suspense and mystery, as Billy Bob and his friends explore his magic sneakers, a magical house with magic phones, a magic game room and much more. Adventure leads Billy Bob, Charlie and Ned to make friends with many magical creatures such as cranky Buzzy the Buzzard and the Warrior Birds. The three friends find themselves in a cliffhanger at the end of the first book that will have young and old wanting to read the next book to find out what happens to Billy Bob, his friends and the magic sneakers. My series of books are both educational, adventurous and humorous. They will keep all who read dazzled with many magical tricks.

  • Entomology for Beginners, for the Use of Young Folks, Fruit-Growers, Farmers, and Gardeners

    A. S. Packard

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 19, 2012)
Ix preparing this little book the aim has been to make it generally useful to different classes of readers. Beginners in the study will find in it copious directions for collecting and preserving insects, how to form cabinets, how to mount insects for the microscope, and how to prepare them for study, as well as guides to the literature containing the description of species. While amateurs and dilettanti entomologists may find useful hints, the needs of those who wish to make a serious study of these animals have not been overlooked, and it is hoped that the book will be of some service in leading such students to pay more attention to the modes of life, transformations, and structure of insects than has yet been done in this country. The book is also designed as a hand-book for the farmer, the fruit-grower, and the gardener. Besides treating of the vlements of the science and the means of ascertaining to what order and family their insect pests belong, the reader is referred to descriptive works and reports for fuller information, while Chapter V. gives the fundamental principles of Economic Entomology, with brief accounts of the more injurious insects and the natural and artificial means of checking their attacks. On account of the prominence given to this topic it is hoped that the book will, with its copious glossary, be serviceable to agricultural editors and useful as a text-book in agricultural schools and colleges.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books' Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings. • The Mammoth Cave and Its Inhabitants, or Descriptions of the and Crustaceans Found in the Cave

    A. S. Packard

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 19, 2012)
American Naturalist forD ecember, 1871 and January, 1872, with the exception of theS ynopsis of the family including theB lind fishes of the cave, which was first published in the Annual Keport of the Peabody Academy of Science for 1871. In bringing the several articles together in the present form but slight changes have been made, principally in the form of a few additional notes. It will undoubtedly be the good fortune of some visitors to the cave to discover other kinds of animals than those mentioned in the following pages, and to observe new facts relating to the habits of the various species. For it must be remembered that all the observations thus far recorded have been made by but a very few of the thousands who annually visit theM ammoth Cave, and that no thorough zoological exploration of the cave has yet been undertaken. Should any new facts be observed, or unknown species discovered, the authors of this little work would be pleased to be informed of them, and communications on all such matters are solicited for publication in the pages of the AMERICAN NATURALIST.
