  • Jewish Fairy Tales and Fables

    Gertrude Landa

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 19, 2012)
Preface LL the peoples of the world have their fairy tales and fables, their legends and their folk-lore, but perhaps no literature is richer in this respect than that of the Jews. Hebrew lore has, indeed, been a source of inspiration to the writers of many lands for ages, and yet Jewish children of to-day have very little opportunity to read the beautiful stories to be found in the Talmud and theM idrash, those vast treasuries of Hebrew learning. It is in the hope of meeting this want that I have written these fairy tales and fables.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books' Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings. • Jewish Fairy Tales and Legends

    Gertrude Landa

Paperback (Dodo Press, April 10, 2009)
Hannah (Annie Gertrude) nee Gordon Landa was a journalist, novelist and playwright who wrote under the pseudonym Aunt Naomi. She was the sister of Samuel Gordon, the writer, and married Myer Jack Landa, a British Jewish writer. Together they published a number of novels and plays. She wrote a children's column in the Jewish Chronicle and published a book, Jewish Fairy Tales and Legends (1919). "The very cordial welcome given to my earlier volume of "Jewish Fairy Tales and Fables" has prompted me to draw further upon Rabbinic lore in the interest, chiefly, of the children. How the wise Rabbis of old took into account the necessities of the little ones, whose minds they understood so perfectly, is obvious from such legends as those dealing with boyish exploits of the great Biblical characters, Abraham, Moses, and David. These I have rewritten from the stories in the Talmud and Midrash in a manner suitable for the children of to-day. "
