The engraved plate graphics in this text are incredible! The romanticized narrative, though well written, is factually distressing. This is a great book for counterpoint for students who are studying early America, and the Revolutionary War in the classroom, as it brings large the reality that the victors get to write the history -- perfect for getting students to utilize their analysis and evaluative skills. ~ SGE

America Moves Forward is one of a series of three, all with the sub-title, A History for Peter. Peter was the grandson of the author, and he started to write the history of the US in such a way so that it would be entertaining, and useful for a young boy. As such, this is history that is perfectly acceptable for any and all young adults...but it is more than that, it is history that is so well-written and interesting that it would be a fine choice for any of us.
