  • Lovers of Louisiana

    George W. Cable

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Dec. 20, 2016)
About the Book The romance novel, which is sometimes termed the romantic novel, places its primary focus on the development of a romantic relationship and love between two people. The sub-genres of the romance novel include: fantasy, historical romance, paranormal fiction, and science fiction. Romance novels existed in ancient Greece, and were also to be found in the literary fiction of the 18th and 19th centuries in the works of such authors as Samuel Richardson and Jane Austen. Also in this Book Titles that are fiction anthologies are collections of fiction works chosen by the compiler. They may be a collection of stories by different authors. Also in this Book Urban fiction is set in the urban landscape, although the genre is as much defined by socio-economic and cultural themes. Urban fiction usually has a dark backdrop, focusing on lower socio-economic characters. Themes include profanity, sex, and violence, with authors often drawing upon their own past experiences to enrich their stories. • Elementary Treatise on Electricity An Magnetism

    George Carey Foster

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 14, 2012)
Preface to the First Edition, by the lateD r. E. Atkinson and one of the undersigned: In undertaking the present work our first idea was simply to translate M. Joubert sT raite dementaire dM ectriciU, perhaps introducing such small modifications as might seem to make it better adapted toE nglish requirements. But, on further consideration, we decided, while adhering to the general plan and scope of the original, to endeavour to introduce into it that view of the nature of electrical phenomena which was originated by Faraday, and developed by Maxwell in his classical treatise. Although these views have now for some years formed the starting-point of almost all the greatest forward steps in electrical science, they have not yet, so far as we are aware, been adopted as the basis of a systematic exposition of so elementary a kind as the present. The endeavour to carry out this idea implied the keeping in view from the beginning of the dual character of electrification and the emphasising of the essential part played in the most familiar electrical phenomena by the dielectric medium in which they occur. This led to the early introduction of the idea of lines and tubes of force, and involved the rewriting of several chapters or parts of chapters.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books' Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings.
