  • Skylar Hikes the Appalachian Trail

    Gary Bond, Brett Bond

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Aug. 20, 2014)
Third grade is coming to an end, and Skylar sets her sights on summer vacation. She’s hoping to visit her grandparents in Colorado, but her parents have a different plan. When Skylar learns that she will be hiking on the Appalachian Trail with her dad for summer vacay, she is not thrilled in the least. Skylar spends June training and trying to get excited about the hike. She does get to go shopping for hiking gear and run in a 5K race. But when she discovers what her friends are doing for their vacations, and that she will be missing the 4th of July celebrations, she becomes even sadder. As Skylar and her dad begin their five-day hike, Skylar finds little to cheer her up. The mountains are steep, she is getting dirty and sweaty, and the bugs are pesky. But Skylar soon discovers how quickly things change around each bend. As she meets new friends and envisions pioneers of the past, she begins to enjoy the new world surrounding her. Will she discover the lessons that Nature has to teach? What trail magic will surprise her and bring her joy? Will the hike be the adventure of a lifetime, or will this summer vacation end up being her worst yet?

A teenage adventure trip into the highlands of Scotland becomes a savage frenzy. Especially the two very different young men now in her life—teenage romance is a complication Beatha doesn’t need. Beatha races to take the ancient magic to a place of sanctuary, praying that her supernatural adventure will usher in a new age.But as she struggles to differentiate between reality and fantasy, is she fighting to save humanity—or just finding a new way to be sane in an insane world? This teenage action adventure delivers an intoxicating mix of romance, fantasy and supernatural which challenges what we mean by ‘sanity’.Goodreads Reviews"The actual plot: amazing. It's got a wonderful message. It's fast-paced and just plain fun to read.""It is the achingly beautiful treatment Bonn gives to the point of view of his protagonist that will keep you reading.""I would highly recommend this book to anyone. I already have acquired a copy of 'Expect Civilian Casualties' and I'm looking forward to sitting down and getting stuck into that one too.""Most importantly for me, the characters, and the themes that emerged through the story, came across as deeply felt. I look forward to reading Gary's next book. ""Possibly one of the strangest and most amazing books I have ever read.""I find it amazing when an author can write from the perspective of a mentally disturbed person. How they manage to get inside the mind of someone like that and being able to get it right is truly awesome. Bonn has done that brilliantly." Meet Beatha!
