  • Handbook of birds of eastern North America

    Frank M. 1864-1945 Chapman

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

  • The Travels of Birds: Our Birds and Their Journeys to Strange Lands

    Frank M. Chapman

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Dec. 3, 2017)
Excerpt from The Travels of Birds: Our Birds and Their Journeys to Strange LandsIt is true that man makes longer journeys than birds do. But it is also true that he could not make them without help from other men. He might walk where there was land, but he would need days to go as far as a bird could go in an hour. And when he comes to the sea he requires a sailing vessel or steamer with charts and maps and compass to aid him in finding the way; while in the hold there must be food for the use of the crew and passengers during the voyage. But the bird traveler asks help from no one. He has no use for locomotives, automobiles or steamships. He carries no chart and no com pass, and he can go with ease to parts of the world which it took man many years to reach, and to some parts Of the world which still are unknown to man.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Bird studies with a camera: with introductory chapters on the outfit and methods of the bird photographer

    Frank M. Chapman

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Sept. 16, 2015)
About the Book Birds are also known as Aves, and are a group of endothermic vertebrates, whose major features are feathers, toothless beaked jaws, the laying of hard-shelled eggs, a high metabolic rate, and a strong but lightweight skeleton. Birds range from the 5 cm (2 in) bee hummingbird to the 2.75 m (9 ft) ostrich of Africa. Birds are the world’s most numerically-successful class of tetrapods, with ten thousand extant species. More than half of the bird species are passerines, which are often termed perching birds. Birdwatching, or birding, is the observation of birds as a recreational activity or amateur science activity. Traditionally done by direct eyesight, binoculars and telescopes allow visual enhancement, and listening for bird sounds provides auditory pleasure.About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades.
