I hope all of you get a chance to read this stunning work by a neglected writer in this country. This is her first work, a diary of her time spent as a nurse during World War I. It presents the "... endless destruction, awful suffering, the waste and despair of those injured during the horror of war." The author was 25 at the time and had a great writing career in front of her. She is most famous for National Velvet, but don't miss her incredible play, The Chalk Garden, memorably filmed with Deborah Kerr.
