Bedivere, Loretta and their daughter Bonnie are a family of badgers who live very contentedly in a park in South London. Their sett, which is also known as Alderscroft Hall after Alderscroft Park where they live, has been inhabited by their ancestors for generations and the badgers are the most respected and esteemed of all the creatures in the park. However, one September day their lives are thrown into disarray. They return home after a rare visit to some relatives and find that Nero, an evil and arrogant fox, has appropriated the hall for himself and refuses to leave. With winter fast approaching, and the other inhabitants of the park tricked into believing that the badgers have generously agreed to let Nero live temporarily in the hall, the badgers are faced with the greatest dilemma of their lives. How ever are they going to persuade this uncouth and mysterious intruder to leave?Bedivere and his mate Loretta think that the best thing to do, at least for the time being, is to leave well alone. But Bonnie, their young daughter, is extremely suspicious of Nero and realises that his presence in the park holds dark motives. As she takes it upon herself to find out more, the badgers and a small number of their friends learn that Nero the fox is involved in a conspiracy that threatens London - and probably the whole world. As their task to stop him gathers pace, the plot escalates into a race against time...
