  • Solar Power

    Elizabeth Lachner

Library Binding (Rosen Education Service, Jan. 15, 2019)
Although the sun beams out more than enough energy to meet the needs of all of Earth's population, at the moment only a small percentage of the power we use is generated through the use of solar energy technologies. This volume examines the factors that have limited the role of solar power in the past and discusses some of the developments that promise to make it more significant in the future. Readers will learn about various methods for collecting solar power, such as concentrating collectors, flat-plate collectors, and photovoltaic cells. The opening chapter focuses on the sun itself, explaining the thermonuclear reactions that produce energy there.

  • Chains - A Play, in Four Acts

    Elizabeth Baker

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, July 23, 2015)
About the Book Satire is a genre of literature where vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings in humans and their institutions are held up to ridicule with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into reform. While satire is generally meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is generally constructive social criticism. Also in this Book Poetry is a literary form that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language (e.g. phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre) to enhance the prosaic ostensible meaning, or generate an alternative meaning. Poetry uses numerous devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. Poetry's long history dates back to prehistorical times ehen hunting poetry was created in Africa. And in this Book Drama texts refer to the mode of fiction represented in the performance of a play in a theater, on radio or on television. Drama is viewed as a genre of poetry, with the dramatic mode being contrasted with the epic and the lyrical modes ever since Aristotle's Poetics (335 BC). The term "drama" itself derives from the Greek word meaning "action”. In the English language the word "play" or "game" was a standard term used to describe drama until William Shakespeare's time. The enactment of drama in a theater, performed by actors on a stage before an audience is often combined with music and dance. In opera, the drama is generally sung throughout, whilst in musicals it includes both spoken dialogue and songs. • Private Stories, Monologues for Young Actors Ages 8 to 16: and the Seven Key Questions to Unlock Your Imagination

    Elizabeth Bauman

Paperback (iUniverse, Inc., Sept. 8, 2005)
“Written by a veteran acting teacher from The Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute’s Young Actors at Strasberg Program, here is a collection of new monologues that really pushes the envelope. Get ready to work your heart out when you approach one of Ms. Bauman’s monologues; her characters are funny, tough, tender, quirky, unapologetically truthful, and beautifully vulnerable. Take one—any one—and run with it; I guarantee the experience of working on it will stretch you as an actor and push you to a whole new level in your acting skills.” —Kerry Muir, editor of Childsplay and Three New Plays for Young Actors from the Young Actors Studio Young people today are bombarded daily with issues of belonging and acceptance. This leaves little room for self-expression, creativity, and developing the imagination. A compilation of distinctive monologues, Private Stories is unique in that the soliloquies cut to the heart of what young people experience. It touches on issues that teens deal with, such as love, friendship, betrayal, abuse, and humor, to help reunite young people with their creative abilities. The monologues are excellent for auditions, classroom work, and competitions; and all of them have been workshopped and 100% kid tested.
