Unabridged (100% Original content) Font adjustments & biography included Illustrated The Boy Patriot by Edward Sylvester Ellis The touching tale of an unexpected friendship in the face of overwhelming odds. Blair Robertson has a powerful gift: He is a great talker. When he speaks, other kids listen. And he really loves to speak. One of his favorite subjects is his native land, the new United States of America. When Hal, a British orphan, passes by Blair and his friends, Blair yells, “Down with the British!” and compels his friends to toss poor Hal off the dock and into the water. Little to Blair’s knowledge, Hal doesn’t know how to swim. Set in Fairport, Maine, at the outbreak of the War of 1812, The Boy Patriot follows Blair as he attempts to balance his patriotism with the need to do right, while learning that friendship can emerge from the most unlikely places. When a British vessel arrives on the horizon, though, Blair knows his life will never be the same. • 1000 Mythological Characters Briefly Described: Adapted to Private Schools, High Schools

    Edward Sylvester Ellis

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Nov. 16, 2016)
Excerpt from 1000 Mythological Characters Briefly Described: Adapted to Private Schools, High SchoolsThis Handy Dictionary of Mythology is intended to supply the everyday reader with concise accounts of the gods and goddesses of the ancients in an accessible form.Besides confronting us at every turn in the museums and picture galleries, these deities and heroes are constantly mentioned by poets and portrayed by painters and sculptors, and they are used for the purpose of illustration in the literature of the day. Nothing is more common than to find the comic newspapers resorting to Mythology for subjects for their pictures; and quite recently Punch has given us some delightful cartoons by Tenniel, which, apart from the admirable drawing, are intensely amusing to people who know enough of Mythology to see the drift of the artist. For example, there is a cartoon representing Æacus, Minos, and Rhadamanthus sitting in judgment on the unlucky electioneering bribers, and underneath is the word "Nemesis."About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. During the mid-1880s, after a fiction-writing career of some thirty years, Ellis eventually began composing more serious works of biography, history, and persuasive writing. Of note was "The Life of Colonel David Crockett", which had the story of Davy Crockett giving a speech usually called "Not Yours To Give". It was a speech in opposition to awarding money to a Navy widow on the grounds that Congress had no Constitutional mandate to give charity. It was said to have been inspired by Crockett's meeting with a Horatio Bunce, a much quoted man in Libertarian circles, but one for whom historical evidence is non-existent. It is said that Seth Jones was one of Abraham Lincoln's favorite stories
