Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Oct. 1, 2015)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.

  • Tommy Smith's Animals

    Edmund Selous

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Feb. 1, 2018)
Excerpt from Tommy Smith's AnimalsWhen the spring came, and the birds began to build their nests, and to lay their pretty eggs in them, then it is dreadful to think how cruel this Tommy Smith was. He would look about amongst the trees and bushes, and when he had found a nest, he would take all the eggs that were in it, and not leave even one for the poor mother bird to sit on when she came back. Indeed, he would often tear down the nest too, after he had taken the eggs. Perhaps you will wonder what he did with these eggs.Well, when he had brought them home and shown them to his father and mother, who never thought of scolding him, or to his little brothers and sisters (for he was the eldest Of the family), he would throw them away, and think no more about them. If he had left them in the nest, then out of each pretty little egg would have come a pretty little bird. But now, for every egg he had taken away, there was one bird less to sing in the woods in the spring and summer.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • The Bird Watcher in the Shetlands: With Some Notes on Seals and Digressions

    Edmund Selous

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Feb. 2, 2018)
Excerpt from The Bird Watcher in the Shetlands: With Some Notes on Seals and DigressionsI have no doubt that these pages contain some errors of observation or inference which I am not yet aware of - but those who only glance at them may sometimes be inclined to correct me, where, later, I correct myself. It is best, I think, to let one's mis takes stand recorded against one, for mistakes have their interest, and often emphasize some truth. Honesty, too, would suffer in their suppression - and besides, if one has got in some idea or reflection that pleases one, or a piece of descriptive writing that does not seem amiss, how tiresome to have to scratch it out, merely because it is founded on a wrong apprehension! - the spire to come tumbling just for the want of a base! For these reasons, therefore - especially the last, when it applies - I have not suppressed my errors, even where I happen to know them. There they stand, if only to encourage others who may be labouring in the same field as myself - which makes one more high-minded motive.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
