  • Torn

    Eddie Edwards

eBook (The Handbook For The Recently Deceased Press, Dec. 8, 2010)
Torn is about a dysfunctional family everyone can identify with. It is a holiday story and it is based on a true story of a large family. There are laughs, tears, religious conversions, favorite siblings and black sheep. Yet, this family has a member unlike any the world had seen as yet. The mother is from the west coast and the father is from the east coast. The family consists of nine children, each very different in looks, personality and goals. There is non-stop fun and adventure, as well as conflict and heart-break, as the parents divorce and the children are pulled from one coast to the other repeatedly. There are also near-death experiences as Rich, the main character and second youngest, becomes the one most affected by the divorce and the constant moving from one coast to another, one house to another, one school to another. After each ensuing trip, a family member decides to live in a different state, until all nine children are separated into 6 states, covering each coast and both borders of the United States. Rich is steeped into a mental and emotional state of delusion as he attempts, unsuccessfully and sadly, to reunite the family all in one place and under one roof. The harsh reality that he cannot ever have the family together again tears him apart until he reaches a state of desperation. What he does in this state of desperation leads to further estrangement and another near-death experience, but will he survive this one?
