  • This Angel Glow from Long Ago: A ROMANTIC MYSTERY WITH MYSTIC OVERTONES

    T Holmes

Paperback (Independently published, Jan. 8, 2019)
Ted, a forty eight year old widower, has been very lonely ever since his wife passed away six years ago. And he fears he is headed for a nervous breakdown. Ted likes to go to flea markets and on one trip he sees an old framed photograph of a beautiful young lady, clad in little more than the sepia color of the faded photograph. Ted is very attracted to her and after a few weeks he goes back to the flea market and buys the photograph. As the old European lady hands the photo to Ted she whispers, 'I dreamt you would buy this photograph. You will see, it was meant for you, and it will call to you'. Ted wonders what the old lady meant. However in his apartment, the photograph does seem to be an added presence and in some strange way it does seem to be calling to him. And more than that, Ted discovers a hundred year old letter written by a sea captain; and hidden between the backing of the frame of the photograph. There is something about the photograph that is very unsettling to Ted and he decides to go back to his old high school church to seek professional help. While there by chance he runs into Mr. Harris, his old retired english teacher. Ted confides his problems to Mr. Harris. And after listening to Ted, Mr. Harris talks about his own boring life; the only thing that keeps him going is his love for marine genealogy. They decided the way to solve Ted's problem is to find out more about this girl in the photograph; to travel and search out her past and ancestry. As they search for "this girl with the angel glow from long ago", they have no way of knowing this trip would change their lives forever. T. Holmes B.A, MA.ED has been a long time teacher (educator). One of his hobbies is searching into one of his ancestors, a Thomas Andrais Juhl (circa 1850). Thomas Andrais Juhl sailed the wide oceans in these 'small sail-rigged' schooners, his voyages taking him to exotic 'ports of call' around the world. T.Holmes uses part of his research to sew into the fabric of the plot for "This Angel Glow from Long Ago". T. Holmes lives in a converted summer house along the banks of the St. Lawrence River near Montreal, Canada.
