    Carol O'Donnell

    Paperback (Blurb, Oct. 2, 2019)
Kylie is a therapy dog who thinks she's just like any other dog, but as she tells her story she discovers that therapy dogs have very special qualities that help them to help others. Living in a home where her owners continuously train Kylie to do therapy dog work is just part of the story Kylie shares. She describes what it is like when visiting schools, libraries, hospitals, and special events like safety programs for young children. Becoming qualified to be a therapy dog is not an easy process, but an important one. Kylie shares what she has to do to pass her "test" and what Molly, the other dog in her house, is doing to become a therapy dog. A question and answer page is included for readers who might want more details on therapy dog work and how to find therapy dogs to work in programs. This book is illustrated with photographs of Kylie doing her therapy dog work as well as a few pictures of her just being a regular dog.

  • Singing Wheels

    Mabel O'donnell

Paperback (Forgotten Books, May 18, 2017)
Excerpt from Singing WheelsIf it had not been for the railing round the driver's seat, Lightning Joe would surely have tumbled from the coach and landed on the hard, rocky road.Forward over every bump in' the road went the flying horses. What did they care for bumps? The bugle call meant that the stage station, or stopping place, was not far ahead. There, other horses would be waiting to carry the heavy coach farther on its way. The tired horses, which had been pulling the stage for three long hours, would have a good dinner and a well-earned rest. N o wonder they pulled with all their might!Up and down over all the bumps went the two small front wheels and the two large back wheels of the stage. Forward and back between the wheels rocked the coach, for all the world like a big rock ing chair. Forward and back it rocked on thick leather straps which Were fastened beneath the coach and which served in place of springs. The yellow dust of the road rose like a cloud beneath the horses' feet: All at once, through the thick veil of dust, Lightning Joe saw a deep hollow at the side of the road. Could the wheels of the stage miss the hollow? If not, ten chances to one the coach would turn (over. But no stage was going to upset with Lightning Joe on the box.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Several years ago, bent on revisiting Perthshire, a locality which had great attractions for me as a boy, I answered an advertisement in a popular ladies' weekly. As far as I can recollect, it was somewhat to this effect: "Comfortable home offered to a gentleman (a bachelor) at moderate terms in an elderly Highland lady's house at Pitlochry. Must be a strict teetotaller and non-smoker. F.M., Box so-and-so."

  • Animal Ghosts; Or, Animal Hauntings and the Hereafter

    Elliott O'Donnell

Paperback (Independently published, Aug. 17, 2019)
If human beings, with all their vices, have a future life, assuredly animals, who in character so often equal, nay, excel human beings, have a future life also. Those who in the Scriptures find a key to all things, can find nothing in them to confute this argument. There is no saying of Christ that justifies one in supposing that man is the only being, whose existence extends beyond the grave.Granted, however, merely for the sake of argument, that we have some ground for the denial of a future existence for animals, consider the injustice such a denial would involve. Take, for example, the case of the horse. Harming no one, and without thought of reward, it toils for man all its life, and when too old to work it is put to death without even the compensation of a well-earned rest. But if compensation be God's law,—as I, for one, believe it to be—and also the raison d'être of a hereafter, then surely the Creator, whose chief claim to our respect and veneration lies in the fact that He is just and merciful, will take good care that the horse—the gentle, patient, never-complaining horse—is well compensated—compensated in a golden hereafter.
