In the early part of the 16th century Spain and Portugal vied for mastery of the seas and the virgin territories of the New World. Against the back-drop of this race for power, a young boy on a Portuguese sailing ship encounters a mysterious tribe of natives in the South Pacific during a secret expedition. When Micas accidentally stumbles upon a strange world-within-a world, he finds that all the beliefs he was raised with are called into question. As he races to save his ship-mates from catastrophe, Micas must balance his loyalties to The Old World with the demands of the New World. This coming of age tale provides a unique and bittersweet perspective on living between civilizations and finding one's own truth in the world.
