He understood it just fine ;-)- My 17 year old son has asked that this story be his assigned reading for school. Her record is 134, but it's senior year now and if she can make it till June, she can disappear into the real world. This time thereā€™s her new friend, Ryan, who makes her believe that she belongs somewhere. This time thereā€™s Marcus, the boy who looks at her in a way no one has before. This time sheā€™s actually started to miss her older brother, Scott, even though she knows she shouldnā€™t. Scott was the boy who hung out with her reading comics and riding bikes. The boy who applied Band-Aids to scraped knees and chased away spiders. But heā€™s also the reason that sheā€™s been in hiding away from the world, and from herself. Itā€™s just 162 days, but for Lexi that's a few days too many. Because it turns out you can't really run away from who you are. Eventually, the truth will always catch up with you.

Not illustrated. 1896 Excerpt: ...may laugh yust as much as you tam please, but I lets no tam sow bite me." Then the boys roared with laughter, and there was no more sleep in camp for us that night. We got up early and had our breakfast by sunrise. I told the boys I thought I could go the rest of the way alone without any danger, so I started on my road and the boys returned to their camp. The canon was a narrow place where a little stream ran through the Umpqua mountains down into the valley. A man in passing through the canon had to follow the bed of the creek all the way, for it was solid rock on each side, and was from fifty to live hundred feet high, and about eight miles in length. The night before I got there it had rained heavily in the mountains so the creek was booming through the canon like a mill race. In places the water would come half way up on my horse's sides and it would be all he could do to keep on his feet. At the mouth of the canon where it enters into the Umpqua valley, it turns to the right and pitches down over the rocks like a whirlpool. I got off and tried to lead my horse across the bridge on the planks but he would not budge a foot. I tried quite awhile to get him onto the plank, but it was no go. Then I thought I would try riding him over and as soon as I got on him and started him he walked straight across the bri...
