“The Ranger; Or, The Fugitives of the Border” is a Western novel by E. S. Ellis, first published 1911. A fantastic example of classic Western fiction, this novel is highly recommended for all lovers of the genre. Edward Sylvester Ellis (11 April, 1840 – 20 June, 1916) was a popular American writer of Western fiction. His 1860 novel “Seth Jones, or The Captives of the Frontier” is considered to have jump-started the dime novel phenomenon, it alone selling over 500,000 copies. Internationally, Ellis was best known for his “Deerfoot” novels which were read widely by young boys until the 1950s. Other notable works by this author include: “The Steam Man of the Prairies” (1860), “The Rival Hunters” (1975), and “The Life of Colonel Davis Crockett” (1884). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new introduction and biography of the author.
