Sammy grew up at the edge of Scar Hill woods with his mother and sisters. He couldn’t wait for the day to come when it was time for him to leave the big hollow oak tree he called home. Even though mother taught him abut the dangers he would face when he left, he wasn’t worried. Sammy was brave and could run fast. Mother was most worried about the road. It was dangerous and she never allowed her little squirrels to play near it. When the day came for Sammy and his sisters to leave the tree, Sammy’s curiosity got the best of him and he headed straight for the road. It was nice to play on the warm blacktop. Until one day when Sammy was playing on the road and he realized how dangerous it could really be. Sammy finally understood why mother didn’t want him to play on the road and he couldn’t wait to get back to her. Find out what it took for Sammy to see that he should have listened to his mother.
