Sixteen-year-old Cody, Eve's new client for her Formula Two Stocks Induction business, begs champion stock car racing driver Eve McGinty, to help a friend of hers. Jessica tells a heart-rending story of being groomed by a gang for underage sex and being trafficked to other towns for the same purpose. But when Eve approaches Jessica's mental health team, her social worker claims that Jessica is making it up to gain attention and is basing all her wild stories on the recent widely publicised Rochdale and Rotherham grooming gang scandals. No-one seems inclined to help Eve try to sort fact from fiction, not the local police, press or psychiatric services, so she is forced to do a deal with the team from ITV who produced 'Thrills and Spills', the documentary she starred in three years ago about the F2 Stocks racing scene. In return, they agree to find her an investigative journalism team to support her going undercover to break open the secretive underworld that Jessica insists exists in their town.So with her old childhood friend, Adam Quinn, as back-up, Eve sets about posing as a fourteen-year-old girl in the hopes that a gang member will take the bait. And since Jessica is claiming that the men are all of Pakistani origin, Eve is uncomfortably aware that if this turns out to be true it will tear the whole town apart, and whatever the outcome, Eve herself will almost certainly be accused of having racist motives. To defend herself from this, she recruits Sahmir, the younger brother of her Pakistani friend, Nasim, to go undercover with her, and they set out to disprove the claims that their hometown is the hotbed of yet another shocking grooming gang abuse ring. Unfortunately, Eve can't tell any of her friends and work colleagues about what she is up to and her increasingly odd behaviour is making them concerned. And with the added pressure of a full Stocks racing calendar, as she attempts to regain both the National Points Championship and to become the first ever female F2 Stocks World Champion in the same season, it isn’t surprising that events begin to spiral out of control…(This book is based on some true events and can be read as a standalone.)
