In this wonderful children's book adventure, a group of unusual animal characters called the "STRANGEES",invite you to their beautiful tropical island home. This first of a series of adventure books tells of a terrible storm that knocks down many of the trees on their island home. Although they are sad about the destruction, and realizing that they must clean up their island home, HOOPLEE suggests his "Great Idea". The STRANGEES will all work together to build a big raft from the fallen trees and other island materials. They all excitedly get to work. This story not only celebrates the joy of working together to accomplish a commom goal, but also demonstrates to children that its' ok to be different, both of which helps to build self esteem. The STRANGEES each have their own individual characteristics and personalities. Some will exhibit leadership qualities that the others will look to for guidance and assurance in thier day to day life. Some will exhibit teamwork and organizational skills that always seem to add the dimension of cohesiveness to everything that the group does together. Some characters will always want to do things with others, while a few tend to be more independent, or deep within themselves. Some will be more outgoing, even mischievous, and somehow always right in the middle of everything that is going on. Still others will be shy, maybe even timid, requiring support and reassurance from the others. Children will begin to identify themselves through one or more of the STRANGEES characters, and this will make them feel as though they are actually part of the adventures themselves. Overall, the STRANGEES will always strive to embrace that which makes us all unique and special, and convey that in a positive light, with love, caring, and a sense of family and acceptance.
