Only a few of the Jestivan will find themselves in position to change the global narrative while others fight personal demons of their own. • Emily and The Slide -

    Sophia Harris, David Harris

    language (, Jan. 6, 2014)
The purpose of this book when I created it was to give the best experience to both young readers and their parents. This is when I started remembering when I was young and how I experienced readers and learnt to love reading. I thought of how my mum and dad read to me. As I started to get the hang of reading, I read more, and my mum and dad would listen to me reading sometimes. After 22 years of teaching, I know how parents feel when they are trying to find a great value book. I have felt at times a book can promise you something, by looking good but then it doesn't read well or the other way round of course. I have found that the more books you choose and read to your child, the better you get at finding those treasured reads, that are favourites for both you and your child. You may know this, but the reading of books, by parents with their children is one of the most valuable learning tools for both the parents and their children. When children and parents are matched with a book written with a good message you have the making of a great learning tool. You will quite often find that school readers have a very basic, good message within the story. In many education areas teachers or parents when homeschooling, have set it up for children to read regularly at home so that they can do this very thing. That is, try to read their reader to their mum or dad. Of course when my children started school they bought their readers home, but sometimes they read through all of the books and wanted something else to read. So, when creating this book, I not only wanted it to be interesting and be set at a good level for young readers, I also wanted to put a message into the book so that there might be a little added bonus of a lesson for the reader. The main message in this book is that we can always find a way to accept something, even if it is bad, instead start having fun. As well as beautifully illustrated pages the idea was to have easy to read words. This book offers more, with the pictures also telling the story. So unlike with readers, the book can be read more than once.
