Robert Gazda—called Hokey Puck by some—has a problem. He’s an All-American Ice Hockey jock who’s had three surgeries on his knee. While he rehabs the knee, and waits to see if he will get a chance to try out for the Detroit Red Wings—his dream—he studies engineering, following in his father’s footsteps. In the end he’s going to have to choose, though—the NHL or engineering. On a dare, he enters an out-of-the-box design contest and wins. The innovation of the design prompts an unusual invitation to design and build a bridge that will open up a remote region of Colombia to farming a cash crop ... coffee, not coca. Gazda accepts, and soon finds himself the target of drug lords who don’t want the bridge built, and a flashflood with enough power and debris to take the bridge out. This is a Young Adult career-interest adventure novel.
