    Kaya Doi, David Boyd

Hardcover (Enchanted Lion Books, May 12, 2020)
On their sixth adventure, Chirri and Chirra bicycle beneath the waves, discovering the beauty of coral and the deliciousness of marine edibles. Chirri and Chirra are pedaling along when they find a cave. At the end of the tunnel, they see a light. Oh! They are under the sea! They pedal through a maze of color and pass through an opening in the seaweed, into a scene of seashells of all colors and shapes. Naturally, they come upon sea treats, such as parfait à la conch and marine soda jelly topped with pearl cream. This is the happy, lovely world of Chirri and Chirra, where they stumble on the most wonderful surprises. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kaya Doi graduated with a degree in design from Tokyo Zokei University. She got her start in picture books by attending the Atosaki Juku Workshop, held at a Tokyo bookshop specializing in children’s books. Since then she has created many picture books featuring her delicate color-pencil drawings. She lives in Chiba Prefecture and maintains a strong interest in environmental and animal welfare issues. Since the earthquake of 2011 she has been active in recovery and shelter efforts for abandoned pets. David Boyd is Assistant Professor of Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. • Growing Up In V-Town:: Home town Stories From Vincennes, Indiana - Volume 2

    David Boyer

    (Independently published, Oct. 14, 2019)
I always enjoy looking back on my memories of growing up in Vincennes, Indiana. No matter how many things change as the years fly by, I will always look back fondly upon my time here in V-Town, and I hope this series of stories will spark a happy memory for you, too. Some of these stories may elicit a tear, some laughter. Some might invoke memories of your first true love – or what my Mom would refer to as “puppy love,” or, perhaps better yet, “youthful infatuation.” Some may remind you of an old friend you haven't seen since high school – or, sadly, one that has passed in recent years. Some may remind you of your childhood, your teenage years – or having to bid them farewell, in order to move on to bigger and better things; marriage, children, grandchildren, and a lifetime of wonderful memories that only a tight-knit, loving family can provide. Regardless of how these stories may affect you, I am sure that everyone in my hometown will find something in these pages to make you smile.

  • She Murdered Me with Science

    David Boop

eBook (WordFire Press, April 19, 2017)
My name is Noel Glass. I once was a respected scientist and madly in love. All that ended in a splash of scarlet. I can never forget, and I will never forgive myself. It’s 1953 and I’m a shamus working the streets of Industry City. I don’t rely on instinct; science is my game. The cases I get, and the booze I drink, keep oblivion just a step away. That is, until some rich recluse walks in and tells me that accident from all this years ago was a set-up, a frame job, and I was meant to take the fall. Now I have to clear my name… like that’s easy. Everyone’s keeping secrets. Who can I trust? My neighbor, the mysteriously connected Wan Lee? Or the songbird Merlot Sterling? Her lies are almost as beautiful as her voice. Even the muscle-bound bodyguard I inherited can’t keep the hit men, spies — or my own government — from trying to put me six-feet under. You see, this secret organization believes I know something and wants to keep me quiet. All I do know is they’re aiming to remake the world into their own twisted image using a device I created. They’ve already axed one world leader, and Ike could be next. God, I could use a shot of bourbon and some answers, but neither comes cheap these days.

His psychiatrist thinks she can help him, but she doesn't know the dark secret that Nicholas is carrying... Every reader will be affected by the twists and turns which Nicholas experiences as he is propelled toward a revelation that will either save him or have terrible consequences. Told through a series of interviews, reports, and letter, this challenging novel is one that the reader will find difficult to put down until the end.Nominated for Manitoba Young Readers' Choice Award 1994 Canadian Children's Book Centre "Best Choice!" • Review - Canada Schoolnet "In Looking for a Hero, David Boyd presents us with Nicholas, a character burdened with a deep secret that is gradually revealed through the efforts of the physician assigned to his case. Through a series of interview transcripts, reports and letters, we learn that Nicholas has been referred for psychiatric assessment following a terrible act. The author skillfully leads the reader through a series of twists and turns, to confront a scenario that is as tragic as it is thought-provoking. Although the crime is dreadful, we come to a fuller understanding of the motivation, as well as a fuller realization of what it is to be, or to have, a hero. Looking for a Hero is a contemporary novel that kept this reviewer hooked right to the end."
