  • Mandy the Muscovy Part Two: A duckling's journey

    David Austin

    language (, March 28, 2020)
This is the second book in Mandy the Muscovy duck's journey. In book One, she had her first meeting with a hungry fox, in this tale she meets what she thinks is a crocodile. Her older brother, Phil, is starting to emerge as her best friend, and also the family prankster. Not an unusual combination in the human world too. The story is again told in verse, and has delighted many small children. .It's a perfect tale to read to a child. Mandy was a real life Muscovy duck chick who appeared from seemingly nowhere in Rural Alabama. She had many amusing adventures, many of which are the basis for these stories. The 'crocodile' in this story was, in fact, an alligator which appeared unbidden in our pond. Mandy and the other ducks knew full well it was there, and by their behavior alerted me to the fact.
  • Mandy the Muscovy Part 3 & 4: A duckling's journey

I am sure your little one will enjoy snuggling up while you read these charming stories, pictures or not. I am sure I will get them illustrated in due course, but you can enjoy them now. Mandy really was a little Muscovy duckling who wandered on to our property in rural Alabama one day. At the time, we only had chickens, and Mandy tried hard to act like the chickens, with often hilarious results. Eventually we got more ducks and geese. Mandy raised a number of broods of her own chicks in her nest under a holly bush near our home. She was a frequent sight, walking around the property with a little line of Muscovy ducklings following.
