  • Encroaching Darkness

    language (, Aug. 27, 2015)
The Upper Realm Saga: Encroaching DarknessThis story is meant as a tribute to some of the great fantasy epics and is very “Tolkienist” in its story line. Though extremely amateur (I began this book when I was 13 years old), I hope the reader might get some little bit of enjoyment out of the tale. I make no claims to being remotely professional, and I am sure there are typos and formatting errors throughout. However, if the reader is gracious enough to overlook these flaws, I expect that the story will be entertaining. I certainly became emotionally attached to the characters, and I hope you will, too. This is my first attempt at writing what some might loosely call a “novel”, and if you have read “The Fellowship of the Ring” you have a pretty solid preview of this somewhat similar storyline. There is a second installment titled “The Vermilion Scepter”, which I think improves on the overall uniqueness of the tale and which (if Encroaching Darkness is acceptable to the reader) I am sure will be enjoyed. I am currently working on the third book in the trilogy and expect to have it completed within the next 12 months.Thank you for your readership, your forgiveness for whatever errors you may find and your understanding that this was written by a high school kid I his parent’s basement! Please enjoy the book. If you did, please pass it along to your friends! With Highest Regards,-The Author-
  • The Vermilion Scepter: The Second Installment in the Upper Realm Saga trilogy

    David DeYoung

    language (, Aug. 26, 2015)
This is my second attempt at a longish novel. I think that my formatting and writing have shown a bit of improvement from the first book, Encroaching Darkness, and I quite enjoyed the unique direction that this story took.In this installment, Hamel and the others begin their quest for the ultimate weapon against the power of the Darkness, The Vermilion Scepter. The adventure takes them from the land of Giants, to the underground city of Aire, across the untamed sea, to the mythical Forbidden Isle. What they discover there will either be their salvation or their doom.I reunite Hamel and Pello with some of their old friends, and create some new ones. Overall, as with the first book, if the reader is able to overlook the typos and formatting errors, I think he or she will find the story to be entertaining. I am currently working on the third book in the trilogy and expect to have it completed within the next 12 months, and if the reader has enjoyed “Encroaching Darkness” and this book, I expect that he or she will enjoy the third one as well.Thank you for your readership, your forgiveness for whatever errors you may find and your understanding that I am not a professional writer. I hope only that this story might give you a few hours of escape and amusement. Please enjoy the book and, if you did, pass it along to your friends! With Highest Regards,-The Author-

  • Stasi 77

    David Young

Audio CD (Whole Story Audio Books, April 18, 2019)
A gripping and evocative crime thriller, moving between the devastating closing weeks of the Second World War. The first book in the series, Stasi Child, won the CWA Historical Dagger in 2016. Karin Muller of the German Democratic Republic's People's Police is called to a factory in the east of the country. A man has been murdered - bound and trapped as a fire burned nearby, slowly suffocating him. Could his murderer simply be someone with a grudge against the factory's nationalisation, as Muller's Stasi colleagues insist? Why too is her deputy Werner Tilsner behaving so strangely? As more victims surface, it becomes clear that there is a cold-blooded killer out there taking their revenge. Soon Muller begins to realise that in order to solve these terrible crimes, she will need to delve into the region's dark past. For those who really run this Republic have secrets they would rather remain uncovered. And they will stop at nothing to keep them that way.
