  • The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe

    Daniel Defoe

eBook (anna ruggieri, May 8, 2017)
Robinson Crusoe /ˌrɒbÉȘnsən ˈkruːsoʊ/ is a novel by Daniel Defoe that was first published in 1719. Epistolary, confessional, and didactic in form, the book is a fictional autobiography of the title character—a castaway who spends 28 years on a remote tropical island near Trinidad, encountering cannibals, captives, and mutineers before being rescued. The story was perhaps influenced by Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish castaway who lived for four years on the Pacific island called "MĂĄs a Tierra" (in 1966 its name was changed to Robinson Crusoe Island), Chile. The details of Crusoe's island were probably based on the Caribbean island of Tobago, since that island lies a short distance north of the Venezuelan coast near the mouth of the Orinoco river, in sight of Trinidad. It is also likely that Defoe was inspired by the Latin or English translations of Ibn Tufail's Hayy ibn Yaqdhan, an earlier novel also set on a desert island. Another source for Defoe's novel may have been Robert Knox's account of his abduction by the King of Ceylon in 1659 in "An Historical Account of the Island Ceylon," Glasgow: James MacLehose and Sons (Publishers to the University), 1911. Although inspired by a real life event, it was the first notable work of literature where the story was independent of mythology, history, legends, or previous literature.

  • Robinson Crusoe

    Daniel Defoe

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Nov. 6, 2018)
Robinson Crusoe is a novel by Daniel Defoe, first published on 25 April 1719. This first edition credited the work's fictional protagonist Robinson Crusoe as its author, leading many readers to believe he was a real person and the book a travelogue of true incidents. It was published under the considerably longer original title The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, Of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pyrates. Epistolary, confessional, and didactic in form, the book is a fictional autobiography of the title character (whose birth name is Robinson Kreutznaer)—a castaway who spends years on a remote tropical island near Trinidad, encountering cannibals, captives, and mutineers before being rescued. The story is widely perceived to have been influenced by the life of Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish castaway who lived for four years on the Pacific island called "Más a Tierra" (in 1966 its name was changed to Robinson Crusoe Island), Chile. However, other possible sources have been put forward for the text. It is possible, for example, that Defoe was inspired by the Latin or English translations of Ibn Tufail's Hayy ibn Yaqdhan, an earlier novel also set on a desert island. Another source for Defoe's novel may have been Robert Knox's account of his abduction by the King of Ceylon in 1659 in "An Historical Account of the Island Ceylon," Glasgow: James MacLehose and Sons (Publishers to the University), 1911.

I need your help as my favourite red coat is in quite a mess.It is all because of mucky puddles and my little dog Jess.- Granny V Grown Ups.Ideal for long journeys, school or bedtime. This book is full of colour and written in rhyme.Perfect for little ones to learn about yellow, red and blue, and what happens when each of them are mixed together too!A message from the Author.Hi everyone! I'm Daniel/Dan/Daddy/Mr.Lowe and this is my first children's picture book. My fondest childhood memories involve my Granny V. Not only my best friend, but also an amazing grandmother who taught me many things, and still does to this day. I remember her wearing a bright red coat, when we I was young, with black toggles and mint imperials in her pockets ready to share. I was lucky to have such a great role model in my life and I believe every child deserves to have a little piece of Granny V in their lives. I currently work as a primary school teacher and my class love colourful books which are written in rhyme. I have created this book to help children, especially those in Key Stage 1, to learn about colour mixing. During my art lessons I found that most children were unaware that other colours could be created from mixing the primary colours. My aim is to make learning this topic fun and interesting through the story of Granny V and her little dog Jess. Every child loves to paint and be creative and I believe this book will allow them not only to have a great story, which they can laugh at and read, but also become confident in this skill which features in the National Primary Curriculum.Happy Reading!
