  • Stacey’s Song

    Cynthia Meyers-Hanson

    language (, June 1, 2011)
One day, Stacey’s counselor told me it could take three to five years to pull her through the grieving process. My reaction was, “God save me!” When at wit’s end, HE was my only hope. I learned to use all the subtle hints HE provided to answer my current questions. Early in her grieving, Stacey acted out her anger. Most children can’t express pain in words, so they demonstrate it. I learned that from my grief counselor and her. Stacey shared her suffering with us in the following manner. She scratched, tripped, and irritated her new family. In rage, she challenged my discipline and requirements for self-control.Many times, I thought, “Helen Keller” instead of Stacey because the girl’s bitterness and anguish blinded her to an out reached hand. She grabbed the appendage clawing it. She appeared as a trapped, wild animal. Her grief appeared that deep! That is how Stacey’s aunt described the INITIAL YEARS AFTER she inherited the young relative due to her parents’ deaths. WOULD HER AUNT SALVAGE THE 10 YEAR OLD GIRL’S LIFE? Curious? Read the book. This book is the true life memoirs of a child (Stacey) that lost two sets of parents before landing in her aunt's home at age ten. It is an uplifting tale of how she survived losing one parent to cancer, suicide, immaturity, and other causes. It is full of minor miracles and inspirational ideas. Through this joint effort book, Stacey’s aunt encouraged her to express her past in order to help other grieving and disrupted children.

  • Race Against Time

    Sydney S. Song, Cynthia Meyers-Hanson

    language (, June 2, 2011)
Who started the Riots? What is Racism? What is Reverse Racism? Is there a bridge to connect the two groups, or are we stuck in Limbo? This YA level book shows real lessons done within the classroom’s walls that may have prevented some of the spread of intolerance on campus and into local neighborhoods. This middle or high school level book explores issues of desegregation in a southern town in Florida in the early 1970s through its impact in 2008. Meanwhile, most of the characters’ names have been changed because the writer just plain forgot the high school peers' real names. Plus, as a storyteller, the novelist wanted to preserve the students’ autonomies and personal lives. That is why the story is formatted as a fictional novella rather than a standard history book. This book uses some poetic license but the objectives include poetic justice.

This is a true story. In approximately 110 homes in an enclave of Lake Mary within a few years, seven or more parents died of unrelated situations including car accidents, cancers, and other unexpected events. As people mourned and grieved, rumors started of a curse on the land; the neighborhood children feared their parents were next to leave for the afterlife. Suddenly, a lemonade stand catapulted some of the young girls to lead their peers and the adults out of grief; they witnessed many minor miracles through this action. What brought on the proverbial lemonade stand? After another dad dies, the kids were told by peers that our subdivision was CURSED! The children- already leery- felt panicked any time a father or mothers left their sight. Their parents attempted to arrange grief counseling into their elementary school. The counselors volunteered services; however, this story took place a few years before events such as Columbine High School. Not understanding the implications of the many deaths on her system, the principal thwarted these efforts. THE CHILDREN AND THEIR PEERS NEEDED GROUP INTERVENTION!!! Finally, God showed the way out of grief and how to bring back a semblance of ‘normal, everyday life.’ A simple and clichĂ© LEMONADE STAND was the start of HIS guidance! The proceeds bought groceries for a family that just lost their dad. The children’s works of love brought about many minor miracles that are shared by telling you their story. This is the true story of how these girls’ efforts help their community through the grieving process.Did these girls find a way to end the NEIGHBORHOOD'S curse and grief? Let’s just say, “Hopefully, this tale will inspire others suffering loss to take up a cause and take back control of their own life.”This book is a must read for anyone grieving.
