This is a collection of eight original plays written specifically for performance in classrooms and/or school assemblies. "The Folklore Festival" is a collection of three folktales from Africa, Japan and Ancient Greece (Grades 2-9). "The Jungle Book" is an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic, written for young actors and focusing on life in the rainforest (Grades K-4). "The Dream Rehearsed" hilariously recreates an imagined first rehearsal of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Grades 6-12). "The Snow Queen" dramatizes Hans Christian Andersen's magical fairy tale (Grades 4-9). "Two Fathom Mark Twain" presents Mark Twain and Bret Harte acting out excerpts from some of Twain's most beloved stories (Grades 6-12). "The Fairytale Festival" contains three short adaptations of "Lon Po Po" (from China), "Peter and the Wolf" (from Russia) and "Rhodopis and the Song of the Falcon: An Egyptian Cinderella Story" (Grades 3-8). "The Odyssey: The Journey of a Soul" adapts Homer's epic poem for the stage (Grades 6-12). "Coyote Tales" brings together three short plays featuring the Native American trickster (Grades 3-8). Each of the eight plays is preceded by a short essay about the style in which the play is written. Also included with each play are detailed production notes and associated curriculum suggestions.
