Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, June 6, 2014)

In Allen Iverson: The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball’s Greatest Shooting Guards, you'll read about the inspirational story of basketball's premier shooting guard, Allen Iverson. Allen Iverson redefined the shooting guard position role in the late 1990s and entering in the 2000s. In an age filled with greats like Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Reggie Miller, and Tim Duncan, Iverson played in one of the most exciting eras of modern basketball. While the Philadelphia 76ers failed to win a ring during Iverson’s tenure, they played some of the most incredible playoff series in NBA history and made it to the NBA Finals in 2000-2001 before ultimately falling to the Los Angeles Lakers. While he may have been controversial in his time playing the game due to what some perceived as an attitude, Allen Iverson always played the game his way, from the very first day he stepped into the NBA until the very last time he stepped off. Allen Iverson remains highly respected by guards all around the league due to the way he redefined the shooting guard position and what was possible for a shooting guard. He was and remains to this day one of the most pure shooting guards to play the game.Get this basketball book on Allen Iverson today to learn his inspiring story, or get it as a gift for your basketball fan. Here is a preview of what is inside this Allen Iverson book:Early Life and ChildhoodCollege Years at GeorgetownAI’s NBA CareerIverson’s Personal LifeAllen Iverson’s Impact on Basketball and BeyondIverson’s LegacyAn excerpt from this book on Allen Iverson's story:To discuss Allen Iverson is to discuss the importance of narratives in basketball. No NBA player’s legacy has been so starkly divided between those who hail Iverson and those who disdain him.On one side, Allen Iverson was a fearsome, relentless warrior. Despite subpar supporting casts throughout his career, he fought and bled for victory every single game. He had an unparalleled will to win, and inspired fanatical loyalty in his teammates. In one of the greatest performances in NBA history, he stole Game 1 of the NBA Finals against one of the greatest NBA teams ever, the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers. It was Los Angeles’s only defeat on their road to the 2001 championship, and the victory epitomized Iverson’s heart and will. He won a MVP award in 2001, averaged 30 points per game year in and year out, and is without a doubt the greatest little man in NBA history. On the other side, Allen Iverson was a selfish and arrogant team-killer. The subpar supporting casts were in fact a perfect fit for his talents. Iverson’s will only showed when he could dominate the ball as much as he liked, and he promptly threw temper tantrums otherwise. That 2001 MVP should have gone to eventual Finals MVP Shaquille O’Neal, and while that Game 1 performance was impressive, the reality is that the 2001 Philadelphia 76ers squad would have never made it to the NBA Finals if they had not played in a miserable Eastern Conference. He scored many points, but with his flaws and temperament, he was utterly incapable of playing on a championship team.Tags: allen iverson, philadelphia 76ers, eric snow, michael carter-williams, nerlens noel, kobe bryant, tracy mcgrady, carmelo anthony, andre iguodala, derrick rose, steve nash, basketball crossover, nba greats, AI3

Learn the Incredible Story of Basketball Superstar Tony Parker!Read on your PC, Mac, smartphone, tablet or Kindle device! In Tony Parker: The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball’s Greatest Point Guards, you'll read about the inspirational story of basketball's premier point guard, Tony Parker. Tony Parker became one of the first international players to create a lasting impact in the NBA at the point guard position. In an age filled with greats like Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, and Tim Duncan, Parker played in one of the most exciting eras of modern basketball. In Tony Parker’s duration as a San Antonio Spur, the Spurs have won multiple NBA championships and created a perennial contender. While he may have been considered raw upon first entering the league, Tony Parker worked tirelessly throughout his first few seasons in the league to ensure his sustainable success in the NBA. Whenever he decides to retire, he will be remembered as one of the key pieces of the San Antonio Spurs Big Three. Here is a preview of what is inside this book:Early Life and ChildhoodCareer in FranceTony Parker’s NBA CareerGetting DraftedRookie SeasonMaking the RIse, First NBA ChampionshipChampionship HangoverEnter the Big Three, Second NBA ChampionshipFirst All-Star SeasonThird Championship SeasonYears of Falling ShortEnter Kawhi LeonardReturn to the NBA FinalsFourth NBA ChampionshipAnother Playoff Exit After Winning the TitleEnter LaMarcus Aldridge, Becoming Part of the Best Trio in NBA HistoryInternational CareerParker’s Personal LifeImpact on Basketball and BeyondParker’s LegacyAn excerpt from the book:While basketball today is a global sport with dozens of international players currently in the NBA, it was not like that in 2001. Basketball was a sport played almost entirely by Americans with only a handful of foreign-born players making their names known in the league.A few foreigners had done well for themselves in the NBA. Lithuanian Arvydas Sabonis, even as a 36-year old center, had led the Portland Trail Blazers to a near victory over the eventual champions Los Angeles Lakers in the 2000 Playoffs. Croatian Toni Kukoč had played a key role as part of Michael Jordan’s second three-peat. And over the past 2000-01 NBA season, a German 7-footer named Dirk Nowitzki had averaged 21.8 points and 9.2 rebounds. However, all three of those players were big men, and big men would always be in demand. For an international guard to succeed in the NBA was a different story. Croatian shooting guard Dražen Petrović had made the All-NBA Third Team in 1993 before he tragically perished in a car accident. During the eight years since his death, no foreign guard had come close to surpassing his legacy. The nearest at that time was Canadian point guard Steve Nash, who was steadily improving as a teammate of Nowitzki in Dallas. No guard until now. For on June 27, 2001, the San Antonio Spurs would select a French point guard named Tony Parker with the 28th pick in the draft. Outside of his invitation to the Nike Hoop Summit in 2000, Parker had never played in the United States. He was listed at just 5’11’’ during the draft and was viewed as a “project”, a good athlete who would need time to develop into a legitimate basketball player. Would Parker be able to adjust to playing in an entirely different country? Would he be able to handle playing for the San Antonio Spurs, a championship-level team that had no time to coddle him? Would he handle the transition from playing in Paris to the middle of Texas? Was he big and athletic enough to play against the more physically taxing Americans?

After all, in such a competitive environment as the NFL, players need to have something of their own to make themselves stand out—regardless of whether or not we are talking about something positive.Of course, what also makes a really good athlete a superstar is not only how he plays on the field and how he affects the way his team plays, but also how he carries himself as one of the more popular personalities, not only in the NFL but in the entire world of sports. The best NFL players usually play with the kind of competitive flair and edge that allows them to stay relevant in the league. There are also those whose personalities tend to stand out either in a positive or a negative way even when not playing the game. This is where Odell Beckham Jr. comes in.Back in college, Odell Beckham Jr. was already one of the most prominent names in American football even though he had yet to play in the big leagues. The young man was already putting up good numbers in his freshman year with the LSU Tigers. During his junior year, he eventually went on to win one of the highest honors any collegiate player can ever hope to achieve, the Paul Hornung Award. As a wide receiver, you could hardly find a collegiate player as good as Odell Beckham Jr. was during his days with the LSU Tigers. But, then again, Odell Beckham Jr. was not one of the more highly-touted players coming into the NFL when he was drafted third overall by the New York Giants during the 2014 Draft. He did not come in with the kind of flair and national attention that some of the other players had coming into 2014, as there were incoming NFL rookies considered to have more talent and upside than the 2013 Paul Hornung Award winner. And the worst part was, Beckham Jr. had to miss his first four weeks in the NFL because of a hamstring injury. This unauthorized biography of Anthony Davis highlights his fast rise into the role of a superstar. The drafting of Anthony Davis by the New Orleans Pelicans completely redefined the franchise, as the Pelicans continued to improve year after year since Davis entered the league. However, things did not work out over time in New Orleans as management was unable to put the pieces needed around Davis to make deep playoff runs; before long, Davis requested a trade. In the summer of 2019, the Pelicans honored his request, trading Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers to play alongside LeBron James. Read on to learn about Anthony Davis’ journey into the league, to his college year at Kentucky leading them to a National Championship before ultimately propelling into the NBA. Back in the days of Wilt and Bill, power forwards were the smaller versions of centers. They rebounded and scored inside the paint but not to the extent that centers were supposed to.As time passed, power forwards became pseudo-centers in the sense that they were asked to do things that centers could do but were also tasked to do so much more. Some say that players such as Karl Malone and Charles Barkley redefined that role because they could play down low at the post and had the occasional perimeter game. Because they were more mobile and agile than most power forwards, it became a trend for power forwards to be more athletic and skilled than any other big men. Power forwards evolved even further when players such as Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, and Dirk Nowitzki took over the league. For the majority of his career, Garnett was well-known because of his versatility. With his length and athleticism, he looked like a center with the skills of a small forward. Garnett could play from the perimeter with his sweet jump shot and was also an adept player in the paint. He went on to win a championship and numerous other individual awards as one of the best players to play at his position.Tags: Anthony Davis, Anthony Davis book, Anthony Davis biography, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, DeMarcus Cousins, Austin Rivers, James Harden, Kenneth Faried, LeBron James, DeMarcus Cousins, Kentucky Basketball, Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Omer Asik, Jimmer Fredette, Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday, Ryan Anderson, Tyreke Evans, Monty Williams

That is why the Heat franchise has become synonymous with that player’s name. The player in question is Dwyane Wade. Ever since entering the NBA in 2003, D-Wade, as he is commonly called, has transformed the Miami Heat franchise from being cellar-dwellers to a team to be contended with in the NBA. He has put the Heat organization on the NBA map with his terrific scoring, leadership abilities, and his penchant for winning titles.A surefire difference-maker who can do it all on the court for the Heat, whether in scoring, passing, rebounding, or defending, Dwyane Wade has been one of the best players the NBA has seen in this generation. Nicknamed “The Flash,” Wade runs the floor as fast as a race horse and can finish with a flourish at the basket despite being a lot smaller than most of the men he clashes with at the rim. With his superior dribbling abilities and point guard instincts, Wade can dictate the tempo of the game just by making plays for his teammates. And despite his height of merely 6’4”, Wade has hops high enough to block baskets at the rim, and he is widely regarded as the best shot-blocking guard in the history of the NBA.Tags: Dwyane Wade, Dwyane wade book, carmelo anthony, lebron james, derrick rose, kobe bryant, kevin love, chris bosh, chris paul, amare stoudemire, miami heat, kevin durant

One of many riveting reads in the Basketball Biography Books series. Newly revised for the start of the 2019-2020 season, Russell Westbrook: The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Premier Point Guards details the inspirational story of basketball's superstar point guard, Russell Westbrook. Russell Westbrook's ascent into the top point guards in the NBA amongst the likes of Chris Paul and Stephen Curry has definitely been a surprise. From once struggling to make his high school varsity team (he did not make it until his junior year) to spending his freshman year at UCLA as a benchwarmer, few would have predicted that Russell Westbrook would be selected as the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. The rest is history as Westbrook has become a universally recognized superstar in the league, having led the Oklahoma City Thunder for many years. At the time of this writing, he has an opportunity to chase a championship as he reunited with his former teammate, James Harden.Russell Westbrook is easily one of the most exciting point guards to play the game of basketball. From flashy crossovers to high flying dunks, Russell Westbrook has a bright basketball career ahead of him. When Kevin Durant came down with a foot injury, Russell Westbrook rose as a primary leader for the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the first season since Durant's departure from Oklahoma City, Westbrook again rose to the occasion as he captured the MVP award while putting up forty-two triple doubles in the regular season, a historic record. It will be exciting to see how Westbrook's latest chapter in his career plays out with James Harden. He is selfish and makes bad decisions on the court. He takes the ball away from great offensive players like Kevin Durant and James Harden. He is just another athletic “me-first” point guard, and the Thunders would be better off without him. In a few years, he will probably follow the legacies of Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis, point guards from the early 2000s, who are as well-known for their careers’ spectacular crashes as they are for their actual play, or even their inclination to win ball games.NBA analysts have said this of Westbrook ever since he soared to superstar status, and such claims are not totally without merit. Westbrook will sometimes try to do too much. In Game 2 of the 2012 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, Westbrook took 27 shots in comparison to 22 shots from Durant. However, despite taking more shots, Westbrook finished with only 26 points as opposed to 32 for Durant. The great Magic Johnson, who won five NBA titles, said, “That was the worst point guard in a championship series I have ever seen.”Tags: Russell Westbrook biography, houston rockets basketball, oklahoma city thunder, nick collison, paul george, kevin durant, james harden, lebron james, kyrie irving, stephen curry

The deafening chants of “Derek Jeter” could be heard sweeping all across the Bronx, let alone Yankees Stadium. As Derek Jeter stood at the plate and looked up to the mound at Tampa Bay Rays’ pitcher Jeff Niemann, he knew he had already compiled two hits that night and was within just one hit of tying Lou Gehrig as the all-time Yankees hit leader. As flashbulbs illuminated the stadium, Jeter stared down the pitch from Niemann and laced an opposite-field line drive inside the first base line and past infielder Chris Richard. While it was the start of an inning that would lead to a Yankees comeback victory, it was something much more—it was the coronation of a Yankees legend. The fans roared so loudly that the stadium shook for the first time since it had been opened earlier that year. The “Derek Jeter” chants only got louder and more deafening as he saluted the 45,848 fans in attendance who had witnessed history. For the 2,721st time, Jeter recorded a hit as a New York Yankee, the same number of hits as Lou Gehrig. It was only two days later, on the historic date of September 11th, that Jeter officially passed Lou Gehrig and became the all-time hits leader in Yankees history. He passed DiMaggio, passed Bernie, passed Mickey, passed the Babe, and then finally passed Lou. Later that season, Jeter won his fifth and final World Series ring to help culminate what many would call the “perfect career.”Before his career ended, he would eclipse 3,465 hits, making him an instant Hall of Famer and earning him a spot in Monument Park at Yankees Stadium, or what some now refer to as the “House that Jeter Built.”Hope you liked this excerpt! There are those that showed potential as superstars but ultimately failed because they lacked the personality, character, and demeanor to become great. However, there are those NBA players that have never shown superstar talent or even the potential for joining the league at an early age yet have the personality and demeanor of one destined for greatness. These are the silent workers and discreet assassins that bide their time under the radar without making noise that draws attention. Additionally, there are the players that may resemble background players because of their demeanor and lack of star-quality personality, but they have the work ethic and desire to become great.Though they are not as big as players like Shaquille O'Neal, Michael Jordan, or LeBron James when it comes to their personalities, these silent assassins are just as talented and impactful as any other significant player in league history.Tags: kawhi leonard bio, kawhi leonard story, kawhi leonard basketball, tim duncan, tony parker, manu ginobili, danny green, gregg popovich, paul george

Kevin Durant started his career as the face of the Thunder dynasty upon entering the league in 2007 as the second overall pick. After a nine-year stint with the Thunder, Durant opted to sign with the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 offseason. There have been excellent rebounders such as Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone, and Dennis Rodman, among others. The NBA has also seen its share of passing wizards in the form of Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Jason Kidd, and Steve Nash. When all else failed, some defenders stopped at nothing to deprive opposing teams of baskets. Players such as Bill Russell, Joe Dumars, Dikembe Mutombo, and Gary Payton excelled at that aspect of the game. However, no matter how many ways a player can affect a game of basketball, scoring was always the name of the game. No other player could do that better than Kevin Durant. Standing over 6’10” and a great wingspan, Kevin Durant has the height and length born to score baskets inside the paint. However, Durant was also blessed with the athleticism, grace, footwork, and handles that made him an even greater threat with the ball in his hands out on the perimeter. He has the size of a center but could move like a shooting guard on the floor. And with the addition of his ability to hit unguardable jump shots and his stone-cold mentality of hitting bucket after bucket, Kevin Durant was a born prodigy at putting the ball through the hoop. In that aspect, he is also very efficient as demonstrated by his shooting percentages. He has become one of the few members to average 50% from the floor, 40% from the three-point line, and 90% from the free-throw line all in the same season.Tags: Kevin Durant biography, Kevin Durant book, Durant book for kids, basketball biography for kids

He has won numerous titles and individual accolades as a long-time member of the New England Patriots, and in 2020 (at the age of 30), he’s announced that he will come out of retirement and join the Tamp Bay Buccaneers–along with his friend and ex-Patriots’ quarterback, the legendary Tom Brady. Gronk is one of the most popular athletes and celebrities in all of America, not only because of his accomplished career, but also thanks to his unique and magnetic personality. When you think of a “fun, likable” player in the NFL, Rob Gronkowski comes immediately to mind. As an opponent, you might fear him on the pitch, but you definitely want to have a beer with him after the game.In truth, New England Patriots fans had no idea who Gronkowski was when the team drafted him in the second round back in 2010. Since then, he has become one of the best tight ends in the history of the sport. As much as other teams dreaded Gronkowski’s presence, they always conceded to the fact that he is an awesome physical specimen who terrorizes opposing defenses and gives defensive coordinators consistent nightmares. Watching him do his famous “Gronk Spike” in the end zone after a touchdown has become a regular occurrence. Fans and experts alike always wonder what makes Rob Gronkowski an elite athlete. Moreover, they would also like to know what has made this superstar a celebrity both on and off the field. Hope you liked this excerpt! The 2000 Dunk Contest. That dunk over 7-foot Frenchman Frederic Weis. When people talk about Vince Carter, they talk about his dunks. How he wowed fans across the world. How he made highlight reel after highlight reel. How every aspiring basketball player dreamed of dunking like Carter. While everyone used to want to emulate Michael Jordan’s high-flying dunks, Vince took that to another level. Now, he has become the benchmark for dunking, and he’s widely regarded as the best dunker in the history of the league. And that acclamation is insulting to Vince Carter. What people have forgotten about Vince Carter is that he was not just a dunker. James White, who played 67 games in the NBA, was just a dunker. Shannon Brown, who once nearly jumped over a 6’6” guard in the middle of a playoff game, was just a dunker. Jeremy Evans was just a dunker. Gerald Green, though a reliable wing scorer, is widely regarded as simply a dunker. Vince Carter was not just a dunker. VC was one of the best players in the NBA at his height. At the wing position, he even contended with the likes of Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady for the best at that spot. He brought basketball to Canada and the young Toronto Raptors. In his third season in the NBA, he arguably outdueled league MVP Allen Iverson in one of the greatest playoff series in NBA history. Vince was an all-around player who could score from anywhere, pass well for a scoring guard, and led the Toronto Raptors to multiple playoff berths almost entirely by himself. As his moniker suggests, Vince Carter was half man, half amazing during his prime. And if you look back at his career, you’ll understand why.Did you like this excerpt? After all, everyone loves a story wherein someone was considered an underdog but continued to work his way up to become one of the best. Underdogs are much more relatable to the general public because many people know what it feels like to be looked at like someone who does not have the talent and the physical capabilities to become one of the greats in their respective fields. We cheered for the underdog athletes who became some of the best at their craft even though the odds were against them. Jeremy Lin, a Harvard graduate, suddenly became a global sensation in the NBA even though Ivy League players are not known to excel in professional sports. Tom Brady, who was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL, is arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of the sport. You might even consider global football celebrity Odell Beckham Jr. as an underdog since nobody back in 2014 considered him to be the best athlete at his position during the NFL draft, but he quickly rose to prominence to achieve a level of stardom no one had thought possible. In recent years in the MLB, there seems to be one particular underdog story that has captured all of us because of how unlikely it was for him to become one of the best baseball players in all of America today. And this story really is not difficult to miss because of how literally large the man is. This is the story of Aaron Judge, an underdog in terms of his journey, but certainly not someone you would consider an underdog if you just looked at his size.Standing 6’7” and well over 280 pounds, Aaron Judge is considered to be the largest player at the outfielder position in terms of body mass in the history of MLB. He has the size that would allow him to hold his own against professional wrestlers, is bigger than LeBron James, and has the powerful body strength that would enable him to stand his ground against offensive linemen in the NFL. But just because he is huge, it does not mean that Aaron Judge was always figuratively one of the biggest players in MLB.Hope you liked this excerpt!
